Canyon Won't Play with his New Brother Canyon's new brother arrived today and Canyon won't play with Phoenix (new brothers name), he hardly acknowledges him unless the new puppy is wanting to play with one of his toys, then all of a sudden, Canyon is there to take the toy from him. Canyon seems somewhat jealous when I show attention to the new one and I'm trying to also spend and give lots of time and love to Canyon. Canyon is exactly 3 months older than the puppy (6 1/2 months and 3 1/2 months). I had hope they would be close and be playing and wrestling and taking naps together and I know it's not even been 24 hours but do you think this will get better and someday they will be close? |

It will get better. It's exactly like bringing a new baby home. He just feels kinda slighted. He'll get over it. He's throwing a tantrum :) |

It took Wicket about a week before he started to warm up to Teddy, now they are great together Wicket is 1yr 1/2 and Teddy is 9mos, they are also 1/2 brothers. |
I would not worry and I would not force them on each other. Give each their own space until they prove to you that they want to share. This means crates, ex-pens, food dishes, water, toys, everything. Whenever you go to do something with/to your Yorkie's your oldest comes first. First to be fed, first to be loved, first to be played with. Try to include both in a fun game if you can. This takes time, let them determine how long. This is what I did with Gracie and Holly and now they are the best of friends. |

It took Parker over a week, dh says it was about 10 days before he would play with Price. I was like you, I was worried that Parker didn't like him, felt displaced, ect. Then one day out of the blue they began to play. Price was pretty persistant though. Even though Parker snapped at him continually (he was gently reprimanded) Price never gave up. They are now best friend, unless that is one of the girls are in heat. Then, well he ceases to exist until the heat cycle ends. :rolleyes: |
