In Shock???Please Help Hey everyone As some of you know I recently picked up my moms new puppy. Well tonight my doberman jumped up and then barked at her. Practically scaring her and I to death. Now she is shaking like a leaf, and no matter what I do it isnt stoping. I have given her some nutrical and have been holding her. But I am so worried. What should I do, the ER here says to keep her warm, any other suggestions? |
Keep her warm. Try to keep the house as quiet as you can and sooth her with a really soft quiet voice. No sudden movements, nothing that may startle her. Keep the dobe away from her. Give a little nutrical here and there just to be safe. Good luck  :) |
I hope she's calming down, but I'd keep her away from the Dobie altogether, and cuddled close to you to reassure her. |
I have kept her away from the other dog al night. This morning she is still very nervous. I see a definate change in her peronality. I dont know what to do. I feel so bad, this has not been a problem before. I am so angry at the dobe, I cant even look at her. I hope she gets better. She did ok through the night, but is wimpering here and there. Has anyone has experiance with this before, becasue right now I am really, really scared for her. She wont even play with Bridget, which sha has always loved to do. :( |
Over excitement/stress can also cause hypoglycemia, maybe she needs some Nutrical. If this is not available a tad bit of honey or corn syrup will help. To play it safe I would take her to the vet for a full examination. Little Yorkies can go down quickly. Please keep us posted. |
I agree stress /excitement cause drops in blood glucose levels and nutrical should be given. In my opinion she has be frightened causing traumatic stress (fear) . Give reassurance and keep her away from the trigger (doberman) that caused the stress. She might need you to stay close for a while til she becomes her old self. |
My Daisy went into hypoglycemic shock Tuesday from the stress of getting a shot! Get some Karo syrup in her. Just rub it on her gums. The vet told me to ALWAYS have sugar water mixed up in the fridge. Mix it half and half and give it with a syringe if you need to. Daisy almost died. If I had not known to give her the Karo syrup she would have. Minutes can make a difference. You need to keep her sugar level up while she is stressed. I would also give her a pea size bit of nutracal every hour through the day. This is nothing to mess with. They can go down very fast. |

Also, when giving the Nutrical, sugar water, or syrup you should see an improvement within minutes. If not rush her to her vet asap or emergency vet if your's is not readily available. |
I'm sorry about what happened to your new baby. keep us posted as to how she's doing. |
My Vet said to give 1cc of kayro everytime I feed Polly. She was tiny when I brought her home and I was so scared. I would just put it on my fingure and she would lick it off. She is 6 months old now and 2 lb 9 oz and has never had any signs of low sugar. I did it for about a month. |
I hope things are calming down by now, but I just wanted to add one thing to the excellent advice that's already been given. Make sure you are not compounding the problem by being anxious yourself. She needs you to be calm and matter of fact. She was probably as startled by your reaction to the Doberman's greeting as she was to the dog's behavior. Don't fuss too much when she's acting stressed and when you notice her being calm, praise her and tell her how well she's doing. You haven't ruined her. Relax. She'll be fine. CJ |
Thank you all for the help. I have been on pins and needles. The vet said she looked ok, just very nervous. Of course how would she be, she just got scared to death almost by a dog 100 times her size. Scarlet feels bad, she keeps trying to come into the room where we keep the puppy, but if Azura even sees her hair she starts shaking agian. Weird thing is Scarlet has never done that before, her and Bridget play all of the time. It was very confusing and concerning. I tell you what I will be glad when this little one goes home with my mom, not that I dont like her and all, but I think it is more stressful to watch someone elses dog worring that something will go wrong, and something will happen to her.O well, Thanks for the advice!!! :D |
