hello yorkshire terrier lovers
i need help in solving a mystery i bought a yorkie in november he is 5months old now and his ears are still floppy is this normal also has anyone heard of a teddy bear yorkie or anything that may be linked with the yorkie breeed if anyone can me shed a bit of light id be ever so gratefull

I got a floppy eared one too. i think it makes her look like a tomboy. but that is ok. it doesn't bother me.
i dont know anything about a teddybear yorkie. never heard of it, sorry

Hi,
My baby is 4 months old and he has floppy ears. Actually, about 2 weeks ago one ear stood straight up(out of the blue) and then the next week after, last thursday to be exact it went back down. I know it sounds weird, but he is still as cute as a button with floppy ears. If you really want the ears up, then you should consider taping them. I have never heard of a teddybear breed of Yorkie!!! HUGGGSSS & KISSSSESS!!!!!! :)

everyone thanks for getting back to me i believe that the teddy bear has something to do with there coats its when the coat is corse and wooley and grows curly instead of smooth and flat as for the house traing my kendals for and a half months old and hes not quite getting the hang of it either so i know how you feel,i was getting worried about his ears but i suppose its ok my groomer said they may never stand up is ths true

Like everyone else said, the floppy ears are normal with some yorkies. If you're really concerned about it, you can try to train the ears to stand up, by taping them I believe. Others on here have done that.

When I got my little guy, he had one ear up and one ear down. Then both went up. Then both went down. Now both are up. I loved the way he looked all ways. I really don't care how his ears turn out, but it's all about personal preference I guess.

Hi, I was concerned too about Schatzie's ears not perking up for quite a long time too. Her groomer said the same thing yours did. However, Schatzie still had not ever had her top 1/3 ear hairs clipped and I was thinking the hair was weighing down her ears to make them floppy. My groomer just laughed at me and said, "Oh if her ears haven't perked up yet, then they never will". Well, I hung onto what she said for about 3 weeks or so. Then finally I went back into her and asked "please just cut her ear hairs to humor me, I really think her hair is just weighing them down". So, the groomer cut her hair on top of her ears and they INSTANTLY went up.

So, if your little one still has the hair on her ears this might be a consideration. It really doesn't take much hair either to weigh the ears down.

I was likeing that beakers ears were floppy ..... but also didnt mind if they went up..... when i first got him his ears where tottaly floped down..... as time went by it looked as if the the bottom of his ears where up but the tips where floped over... when he went to be groomed for the first time i never told her to trim his ears or anything i just told her to clean him up and do what she thought would look nice.... when i got went and picked him up his ears where straight as a arrow..... so nice too.... and have been sence... all she did was shave the very tips of the ears... very neat how that works...

thanks for all the replys kendals ears are pretty big they stand up at the bottom but droop at the ends i dont think ill tape them up if they stand up they will do it in their own time if not hes still a cutie bless him like isaid thanks for all the replies

Gracie's ears are just starting to come up and she's 12 weeks! I shaved them about 3 weeks ago and they've been floppy since I got her, but on Monday I noticed them starting to come up and each day she's holding them up more and more! So cute!

As for teddy bear Yorkies, my breeder says it's the face shape/look. There are baby dolls, teddy bears and wolf. I believe baby dolls have the shortest nose, teddy's next and wolf's the longest...

thanx for shedding light on that kendals nose is quite small ive seen bigger at least we know now what a teddybear is my groomer told me thats what he was i was beginig to think she was mad never mind eh bye the way gracies a little babe

I shaved the whole ear on SNoodles, and they went up almost immediately. I guess it is just a preference. But the Yorkie is suppose to have "up" ears. You use a mustache trimmer to cut the hair. Just roll it over your finger. Cut at least 1/3 from the tips. I just cut all the hair.
