So worried: What has been the longest time you've been apart from your baby? I am going away next month for an entire month. This is the very first time I will be without my Shadow for so long after I got him. I have to say that I am very nervous, sad and hurt that I will leave him at home with my husband but I must go and do what I have to do (studying abroad). I know he will be safe with my husband and well taken care of but I'm just afraid that he will not be as attached to me as he is now when I return. Will he forget who I am? I mean, he's a dog..he's brain is so tiny! I am so worried about this, please put my mind at ease. Thanks. :animal-pa |
I have been away form mine 2 weeks and they were all excited when we got back. Im sure it will be fine |

Pixie and Roxie and Maya have never been left overnight wihtout me. Cali was for 3 days when she was little and had to be hospitilized. I think they would do ok but I am too afraid to leave them with anyone. |

But rest assured that your baby WILL defenetly remember you and miss you everyday!! Safe trip!! |
I was gone longest for 3 months. My Yorkie didn't forget me. I think he thinks and misses his Mommy every single day. I was worried sick of him and missed him so much that my heart nearly broke though. Edited to add: I have heard dog's memories of their owners lasts for 5 years and 5 years is a long time. |
I thought I would be gone for 3 weeks and it turns out that's not the case so I was happy. I have anxiety attacks when I am out for the day away from them I cannot imagine being gone for a few days or weeks. |
He knows your husband and will be in a familiar environment so i would think he'll be fine. My husband will be deployed for 12 months at a time, so hopefully walker will remember him when he comes home. Hope the 5 years thing is accurate. I honestly think you'll be more worried then your furry one will be. |
I am going to be gone for a couple weeks also for vacation and I am also worried that he will forget me. My mom will be watching him so at least i know he will be in good hands.;) |
Aww you are so lucky to have hubby to watch over you, tell him to put a use shirt with your smell at nite when you are gone or where your fur-baby favor spot is, we did this when we left the cats for a week at a pet-hotel they told us to do that so we got our use without wash shirts and there were fine, I have never left the girls alone for too long, so I understand your fear:(, but time will go so fast;) |
The longest I've ever left Sasha was about 2 days. I went up north with my b/f on a snowmobiling trip, so my parents got to watch her. It was really hard to do because I had only just gotten her in November and she had to of only been 3 or 4 months old. She was fine the 2 days, but the day I came home she didn't much want to eat (I think she was just protesting me being gone) but when I came home, she was so excited and happy to see me, she got right back to her normal self. I'm sure Shadow will be just fine and he definitely won't forget about you. |
He will be very happy to see you when you return, I left chester for a little over a week and he was quite happy to see me when I got home. |
Sometimes it's a mixed blessing. Your pup will learn to adapt to a new situation, which is great for him. The more challenges you give him, the more well-rounded he'll become. And, while you'll miss him, you should take advantage of the independence too. As much as we love our dogs, we need "me time" too. This sounds like a terrific opportunity for you. You should embrace it with no regrets. (Oh, but keep lots of pics on your iPod!) |
