Haruka has flown many times too... I usually bring her vaccination papers but usually don't carry health certificate. I think only time I had that was when I picked her up at PA breeder. None of the airline has asked me for health certificate .. They just want to get my credit card for her fee....

It more a federal regulation transporting animals from one state to the next. Many airlines won't ask for it but if it is asked for and you don't have it you could be denied boarding. And I am not talking about the check-in people... tsa could ask for it, a representative of the FDA (I think that is the agency that regulates this) may be at the airport and come up to you. I would rather be safe than sorry.

Yikes. I sure wouldn't risk flying without a health certificate. I have been asked once for mine, at security, not the check in counter. They were very nice about it, just asked to see it when I had to show my boarding pass and ID.

It is the Department of Food and Agriculture that regulates this.

I can't even imagine being turned away because I didn't get one. That would be awful and I doubt you would get a ticket refund!! :eek:

I flew with Benji in July and I bought a standard sherpa bag. He is 9.5lbs and he fit great in there. We flew Airtran and the flight attendents all made sure to know exactly where I sat and kept looking at me through out the flight. I did put my hand in the bag but never put it on my lap or take Benji out. Good luck!!!

Angelo and I have flown US Airways countless times with only one time having to put him under the seat for take off/landing. The other times the carrier could stay on my lap, and as long as he back paws where in the carrier, I could have the top open, with him hanging out.

I was even offered a beverage for him on one flight. :D

I am flying delta which is still i think way over priced but agree it is worth it. How big is your baby? Mya is almost 8 lbs...I have a kwigy bo carrier but for that long of a trip I think she'd be cramped...it works for trips out to errands etc but I want her to be comfy with enough room.

I see a few online that I like but again, that will be adding another 100$ or so to the ticket price for her sigh. Children are expensive :)
I flew my babies to New Mexico from New Hampshire on Northwest. I have a Sherpa Jazzy SoHo Backpack, it fit both boys (one 8lbs, one 6lbs) they were a tad bit cramped but it was the biggest size I could get for the plane. They did great! I brought benedryl with me but didnt need to give it to them at all. I loved the backpack it made it so easy to carry them on my back! They did great until they spied a seeing eye dog in the airport from inside their bag, then they started barking and catching people's attention. Other than that noone even knew there were dogs in the bag.

My experience is when we fly she has to ride her little bag under the seat in front of me, but during takeoff I unzip the top so she can see me and won't get scared. Plus I massage her little ears to help with the pressure. Unfortunately dogs can't chew gum :)

Hi I have flown with SophieKate on Delta, I am not sure if anyone has mentioned it but you will need a health certificate and they are only valid for 10 days. I was only going for a 5 day trip so I took Sophie to the Vet two days before we left.

I should mention Delta is expensive if you want to fly your puppy, for SophieKate it cost me $300.00 to fly her from Atlanta to Detroit and she didn't even get a seat. Overall the experience was fine, Sophie did very well and the flight attendants were really nice.

when my mom went to pick up Suzie... we used a sherpa carrier. That type is accepted by nearly all airlines.
I'd bring some wipes in case if she has an potty accident... and wee wee pads.

I think you have it backwards. It is not only good for 10 days...you have to get the certificate a maximun of 10 days before your trip. You can't get it any earlier than 10 days before. I don't know that there is an expiration for the health certificate.

Health certificates have an expiration date. Many are only good for ten days, some for two weeks, and others for 30 days, depends where you are. It's really important to find out how long they are good for before you take the trip. If it is a long trip, you would have to go to a vet wherever you are and get a new one to travel home.
