Hairdo help!!!!!!!
 

I have a foster dog who is about 13 lbs with floppy ears, he has been on petfinder and a rescue website for 3 months with no interest :( I thought maybe it was the hair? I need to get him groomed but I need help with ideas. I have been searching for pics online but I cant find anything I like, its hard with the floppy ears. Im not sure if I should let them shave the ears or leave them long, cut them staight across or to a point? I feel like his body needs to be pretty short because he has curly hair and the longer it gets the rounder he looks. Any suggestions would be appreciated and pics even better. I cant post pics of him in my thread for some reason but I do have a couple of him in my profile albums under Sam.

Well, first of all...Sam is a doll! I have a soft spot for the bigger babies...he looks like he would be the perfect 'family sized' Yorkie. I love the Schnauzer cut on a Yorkie...the ears would be shaved, the back short, fluffy legs and a short 'skirt' around his body. I wonder if the ears would come up at all once they are shaved?

Awww. Thanks I too think he's adorable. Ill try to find some schnauzer pics online. His ears definatly wont pop up. He is 5 years old and they are pretty large and floppy.

Baxter is almost 13 lbs, I get him cut in a westie cut, the back is shaved, but the skirt is longer....it makes grooming easy, and he is so silky smooth! Here is a pic....

I like the westie cut too. Its the big floppy ears Im having a hard time with, do we shave them with that cut? I dont want him to look funny. I really can only see him with a puppy cut and he really wont look to different with a puppy cut.

I think he quite a cutie too. We probably arent parting with him. We are his 5th home. He has been with us 3 months and with no potential adopters so it would be best for him and us to have him stay. We are new to fostering and just adopted out our other foster and it was so hard. Hopefully the adopting out process will get easier each time. I would love to continue to help yorkie's find there forever home but man is it hard when you invest so much time and love to them and they leave. Its for a good cause but that dosent mean it dosent hurt when they leave.

Awww he is so cute. I think he just needs a trim. Sophie has floppy ears and weighs 13 lbs too. I like the ears long. Wish I could have him. He really is a cutie.

Sophie is so cute. I like how her body is cut short and the ears are long. I was having a hard time picturing him with shaved ears. I was feeling like if I shaved his body then I would have to do the ears but thats not true huh?

OMG, Sam is just the cutest thing ever!!! I know Yorkies are supposed to have "sticky-up" ears, but I LOVE floppy ears! My new 4 month old baby has one floppy and one sticky-up, and i'm prayin it stays that way ;) I think dogs w/ one or both ears floppy are just the cutest! I think you should keep the hair on Sam's ears long the way it is :)

Sam got his new do today. I think he looks so cute. I told the groomer to do what she thought looked best. The fist pic is his before and the last two are after.

Your right!!!! I think I knew along but couldnt bring myself to do anything about it. In may my little Maggie went to rainbow bridge at age 16 and I didnt feel like I could ever go through it again so we decided to foster. But when I picked sam up yesterday at the groomer he showed more excitement than I have ever seen from him in 3 months, I think he thought he had been abandoned again. :( I knew at that moment he needed to be in his forever home and we need him just as much. Sam has been through so much in his 5 years and he tries to make himself invisible in our house. He hasnt had one accident in the house which is unbeilevable for a dog that spent most of his life in a shelter. He dosent bark, chew or run inside. He mostly finds a far away corner in the house and sleeps. He wont sit close by people or even let you hold him. Yesterday after the groomer he laid next to me (touching me). He is such a great dog and has been discarded by so many people I think he dosent even try to bond. We started the paperwork and Sam will be in his forever home spoiled and loved. How lucky am I that he found us. We are still going to continue to foster. Hopefully the more Sam realizes I wont leave him he will continue to come out of his shell and be a happy healthy dog.

I love the new cut! I have a Yorkie with floppy ears, too. She has only had one haircut, and it was a puppy cut. As long as they look groomed, I think they are all cute!!!

This thread brought tears to my eyes, Sam is a beatiful boy and I am so glad to hear he has found a forever home with you!! He will know he is loved and will not be abandoned again! and I have no doubt in my mind that he will give you 100% of his heart sometime really soon... He probably already has, he just wasn't showing you until you showed him you aren't leaving him... :2hearts2:

Sam is so cute! :wub: I am not a groomer, but maybe you can give him a puppy cut (teddy bear haircut). I have a Shih Tzu, and the groomer shapes her ears to flow with the haircut (face). Sometimes, I allow the ears to grow longer than the hair around her face. I would look at other breeds with long hair that ears hang down for my inspiration for his haircut. I love Baxter's haircut; I might have to use that haircut on my dog. Thanks!

My Rory is 9 lbs and has floppy ears. We keep her ears trimmed, but the rest of her is longer. I love his new hairdo!

I am sooo happy for you and Sam. And just look at his smile...WOW. Thats appreciation. I have a rescue Scottie, Bailey that was about to be put down at the pound until rescue scottie group found out. Now he has been with us for 2 years last January. He still runs in his kennel and hides around my husband. a guy must have mistreated him but he is getting better by the day....Lots of walks together will help heal the unknown. ...God Bless you and please keep us informed.....
