Ears? So basically I feel like I'm getting lied to. My 6 month old precious furbaby's ears just wont stand up I asked my vet about it and he said if I cut the hair off regularly they will eventually go up. I trim the hair on her ears probably faster then it grows and they are not going up. Does anyone know if they will go up or not? because if they are going to stay down then I want the hair to grow on them and I'll just stop cutting them. Also does anyone know why this happens? We bought her from a well respected breeder and her mom and dad's ears go up. |
You could try taping them! When my puppies ears don't stand on their own I tape them for about two days and that always helps and no more floppy ears! hope this helps! |
This may sound weird.. but what do you mean by tape them? |

I agree...my Brady would not stand his one ear for the longest time..just keep taping them |
Shaving, taping, and occasionally massaging them to increase blood supply are all said to help. In addition a little extra calcium might be beneficial such as that found in cottage cheese and yogurt. Teething puppy's ears droop and it's said because calcium is pulled from the ear cartilage for the new teeth. Nursing mothers ears droop due to their increased calcium needs, so that's why a calcium supplement might be in order. Many people love the droopy ears though. |
Thanks so much I will def look into the calcium and tape her ears.:) |
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I never thought Brooklyn's ears were going to up but they eventually did on their own. |
Hot Rod's ears didn't go up until he was 8 mos old, Just after I took my avatar picture. Poor baby went around with completely shaved ears for a few months. I did tape for a few days--only hours at a time. |
Krissie Bella had one ear that would not stand up and I was considering taping it. I didn't have to. One morning I woke up and pow! It had happened. I did have my groomer shave the V into her ears so they wouldn't be so heavy. Now she looks like radar with those big ears!! Either way, your baby will be totally precious to you! |
Sometimes babies ears also drop because they are teething!! Your vet isn't necessarily lying to you....shaving the ears can help but doesn't mean that it will....I would try taping like others have suggested...Good luck! |
I taped Marley's ears for like three days, and they stayed up for about 1...haha Then I taped them again and left it for a week. Now they are totally staying up. I hesitated to keep it on that long, but I checked him for any signs of allergy to the tape or anything out of the ordinary. After shaving the ear, I taped them. Worked great |
i wouldn't worry too much about it. Breyli's have always been up but I think the floppy look is cute. Like others have suggested, if you really like the look of them up and that's what you want, you could try tape. |
