when are their first shots given?
 
6 weeks? I am trying to figure out chloes official b-day since I am a bad mommy and I forgot it and cant find the papers. But I did find shot record :) .

Most shots are given @ 6 - 8 weeks I think with 6 weeks being the norm. It may depend on the state you live in and the vet you go to.

My dogs were given at 6 weeks.

First shots are typically administered at 6 weeks of age.

I have read to begin giving the pups their vaccinations @ 6 to 7 weeks of age: Give first combination vaccine. (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Coronavirus)

The pups receive their Mama's immunity from her milk/colostrum the first days of life. This immunity wears off after several weeks but no way to exactly when. I read that if it wears off the puppy will be vulnerable; but if the vaccinations are given before it wears off they wont be effective and the pup is equally vulnerable. The series of vaccinations are given in order to catch the immune system at the earliest time the vaccinations will take affect.

I just posted a thread in the Health section entitled "Vaccines-Are they safe for your dog?" The author if that article who is a vet has very legitimate and sound reasons for advising the delay of any vaccines until 14 weeks since the immunities from the mother are there that long after weaning. It is extremely interesting and cruucial to the life long health of your dog. I urge everyone to read it.

Thanks guys. This info has helped me figure out chloe's age. I was a little off. SHe is 7 months 3 weeks based off shot records.

my vet said
 
i like to give them at 7 1/2 week first it takes a few days for shots to become protective and my vet said at six weeks you have a shorter coverage of shot and moms milk is still protecting the baby
by shorter coverage i mean will not last a full four weeks for some reason 2 vets have told me this
