Anyone Saw Bones I purchased some Merrick's Bully Sticks. Since Gus had an adverse reaction to another brand of Bully Stick, I only wanted to get a few for him to try. In order to meet Merrick's minimum order requirement, I purchased some 3" & 6" G.I. bones. They are huge. What was I thinking? So, I'm thinking of cutting them into smaller pieces with a saw. I tried this with a larger beef bone, in the past, and it took so long with a hand saw, it creeped me out seeing the bone dust. I do have a bandsaw that might work better. Anyone have experience with sawing bones? |

Not sure what the answer is to this one, except that I know that bully sticks aren't technically bones. They will probably cut easier than bones, and a band saw should do the trick. |
It's the big G.I. bones I want to make smaller. The Bully Sticks are okay sizewise. |
Bildio you are sooooooooooooo funny!!!! I dunno how sawing the bones is gonna work, not so good I think... But I'm gonna keep an eye out to see how this turns out. hehehe!!!!! :D |
Creative solution :lightbulb I made my neighbor's two Labrador Retrievers very happy. Still have bones left. I'm off on Veteran's Day, so I'll try the bandsaw - maybe. The thought makes my skin crawl. |
No idea if it will work or not, but if i can understand how sawing bones with a table saw might upset your psyche. lol. little bit "CSI".:D |
I use a band saw to cut bully sticks. Works well and it's very quick. |

Merrick Pet Foods - Dog Treats I think the G.I. is just a name, but is probably taken from the WWII (remember that one?) General Issue military gear given to soldiers. |
Well, forget the bandsaw. I cut into the bone about 1/4 inch, and then the bone starting smoking with about an 1 1/2 inches to go. So, I gave the whole bone to Gus. At first he was afraid of it. Then his curiosity took over. He can't chew it, but he's sure giving it a licking. |
