Winter Boots: Facts and Fiction Help! OK, I have a 2 1/2 lb Yorkie mix (rescue). I love her to pieces, she is just a year old and we moved from Miami to the Northeast. She is already freaked out by the cool fall air and has taken to wearing coats and sweaters without a problem. She also sleeps in pjs because my drafty basement apartment is too chilly for her taste! Sooo.....the question is, I am living in a city, do I need booties for her? I am nervous about the little ice and snow crystals getting stuck between her paw pads. She is extremely temperature sensitive and I feel a LITTLE ridiculous putting shoes on her...but the German police dogs wear protective footwear!! And if I do it for her, should I be putting boots on my 12 lb. Cavalier too? He is less temperature sensitve, but if this is a safety issue, maybe he needs them too? What do you urban dwellers do regarding paw care in the winter? Help! |
You're living in DC as noted under your avatar? While it gets cold up there...it's not as cold as places further north....and snow doesn't stand on the ground continually....I think she'll be fine without boots. If you were walking her where salt has been put down for ice...I would wash her feet off afterward. |
Sounds like a plan - thanks. I have just never had such a SMALL doggie before! I want to make sure I am a good mom! |
