my bright idea! We have hard wood floors in the living room, dining room, bedrooms and laminate in the family room with area rugs-I have a beautiful oriental in the living room-got it before the yorkies.Either Bubba or Sissy (I really think it's her) occassionally will sneak into the living room and pee on that rug arrgghhh! Sometimes I find it right away and sometimes don't notice it until the tell tale yellow spot shows up. Right now I'm in the process of fall house cleaning and guess what? I found two spots on the rug. The floor underneath has a dark stain now. So, I think this is what I'll do. I'm going to get plastic painter' drop cloths and put them under the rugs to protect the flooring. What do you think? |
Hi Neighbor I have a similar problem with the urine stains on the hardwood floors under carpets. I put a heavy clear plastic on top, but under should protect the floors. You'll need to check for urine periodically, and dry it up when you find it. |
I think that's a very smart idea!!! lol I have rugs around my house as well...and ever so often..I'll find a little piddle spot!!! Thank goodnes my rugs are really thick!!! lol My baby has an accident once in awhile and my husband is like " we've got to do something about her and her accidents"... OMW...I just laugh...because for the most part Daizy is very good at letting us know she needs to go out...but I've heard from ALOT of people on here..even the best trained Yorkies can have accidents....not sure why that is....but I just can't seem to get my hubby to understand that! lol That's also another reason why I keep her in onesies! to at least catch most of her accident! |
Depends what you floor is finished with, but plastic is a no-no for some finishes, even those rubber rug liners can ruin some finishes. Most finishes (polyurethane) have a plastic in them so another plastic interacts with that plastic. The floor needs to breath. You could put a cotton material down first, than the plastic, than the rug, or find a cotton lined plastic, maybe even those flannel back plastic tablecloths? A wood-flooring store would know, or even a store that sells oriental rugs. |

piddling on rugs Great idea about the rug liner. I would of never thought of that. I think I have figured out why one of my yorkies pees on my throw rugs sometimes. When they were very young, I paper trained them (newspapers). I think my fur babies think the rugs are nothing more than soft, furry newspapers. My friend uses the piddle pads and has never had the problem with her yorkie taking potty breaks on her throw rugs. Maybe just a coincidence. I've learned real quick though when I buy any scatter rugs for the house, they have to be machine washable. If they have the latex backing, I always hang them outside to dry. Clothes driers will cause the backing to crumble. Linda:) |
