Judgemental Rescue Groups... No Thanks.. :mad: Has anyone ever had a bad experience with any of the not-for-profit Rescue Groups? Any of them..... All I wanted was to talk to someone either by phone or email about a Yorkie that has some issues. I wanted to find out about the severity of the dog's issues. I realize these groups want to place these needy animals into a home that will be the pets fur-ever home but they are ridiculous. I probably would have had an easier time adopting a child then one of these animals. I really feel sorry for the animals that want so desperately to go home. I think these groups are missing great opportunities to re-home these pets because of their cavalier attitudes and ignorance! Does anyone agree? |
I'm not sure I'm the one to respond to your post but my experience with the rescue group that we got our little guy from were very caring people and yes careful about adopting. I filled out an application and talked on the phone as well as via e-mail. I suppose every rescue group are different to some degree, but I can only speak of our experience and it was good. Please don't let one group stop you from trying to adopt a rescue. God willing we will adopt another puppymill rescue. It is so rewarding.:animal-pa |
I've adopted 2 from private persons but this group was way over the top... I would really love to rescue again. They ask you for all the information. YOu fill out this long interrogation form. I would expect that they would check all of the information out before they fire off a very negative and cold response... Just the courtesy of a phone call would have been nice.. It's their loss! No.. It's really the poor dog's loss... They really have me fired up! I'm glad you've had a good experience.. I sure didn't and it's turned me off to look for a rescue from other organizations... |
I am not sure what your issue was with them, but please keep in mind most of us work full time and volunteer our time and resources. Also, our first priority is the dog. |

I know it's difficult. We don't have a fenced yard so we could never get a rescue from most of the rescues. But yet, I still managed to completely house train both of mine, they just go outside on leashes. :) We ended up getting Sammy from another YT member who was looking to re-home her. So she wasn't a rescue, but she needed a new home! :) |
I had a rescue organization reject me solely because I don't have a backyard or live in a certain neighborhood. I guess Britney, Brooklyn, and Coral live horrible lives because they have to walk on leashes in the city and run off leash in the country or at the beach. :p |
I wouldn't let your experience with one rescue organization form your opinion of all rescues. I know our adoption process to some, probably seems lengthy and intrusive. But we have to be as certain as possible our dogs are going into the best home for them and are the best fit with the specific owners. Many of these dogs lives have been unpleasant at best and the last thing they need is to be further traumatized by being placed in a situation that isn't best for them. |
What beach are they running off leash on??? Call the cops!!! God love Brooklyn, Britney and Coral... I hope you're in FL! We are! I'm glad you've got your babies and they're happy. I thought it was just in my area. I thought about getting a yorkie from a rescue group and if you didn't have a yard then it was an automatic no. I didn't really get it, but I was also turned down from adopting a cat too because of no yard:rolleyes:. I can respect them wanting the best for the animals, so I wasn't that upset. I wish ppl showed the same amount of love for human beings too.:confused: |

Although through YT I've come to know you and would definitely trust you Kyle, an organization that doesn't really know you could be more hesitant. I do think it's important for rescues to consider the individual applicant and treat them with respect . And, in certain circumstances I would adopt to some without yards or fences. I know of several pets living great lives in apartments. |
it would be my personal preference to have my puppies go to homes with fenced in yards.. just my opinion of course..and a doggy door too... and another same size friend...:) and of course they should choose the same dog food and the same shampoo.... of course i am a pain in the butt... ask my mom... lol:animal-pa |

I am currently fostering a baby for a rescue. I can see why the rescues are picky. There is a reason that the dog is in need of rescueing. I have only had my foster baby for a little over a week, but I can tell you that I am glad that the rescue is very picky. They must get tons of applications, especially for yorkies. Not all applicants are like us and would love and take care of them as we do. Fences are important. That should be a major criteria, it would be terrible if the dog got out of their new home because the fence wasnt up to par. Not saying that everyone who owns dogs need a fence, but these babies are different, they have had a rough life and need that boundry. Most of the people that work with the rescue that go over the applications are volunteers. These people do not know you personally. I would say keep trying. Try calling them. I too have submitted applications with no responses. But I also understand that the people are volunteers and cant respond to everyone :) good luck! Rescuing is wonderful. |
