Morkies hair :confused:Hello everyone, Long time no talk, As alot of you know i have a morkie named bowie, I was wondering if any of the other morkie mommies have an issue with their babie's hair getting constantly matted? Bowie is always matted, no matter how much i brush him. I feel bad because i know that it is very uncomfortable for him. I just dont know what to do, i m scared of taking him to the groomers because i dont want them to shave him completly. Especially now that its winter and he gets cold easily. Any suggestions? |
I was hoping to get some help, unfortunatly my thread may have gotten lost amongst the others |
Hi, don't know how much help i can be, but i'll try... Is he wearing clothes? that will cause matting. The best thing I use is a product called "Cowboy Magic" its for horses manes but you can order it online, or you can get it at a horse and feed store. Works wonders! Hope this was of some help |
Make sure you use conditioner when you bathe him. You can also use childrens detangler before brushing... |
Thank you so much for answering, i have heard of cowboy magic. I think i will thry that as well. |
Detangler! I have a 'Morkie' - Ella Bean and she has soft, cottony hair that mats up every day. Even when she goes 'naked' - playtime and wrestling with my other pup causes mats. I use a detangler and I swear by Isle of Dogs Detangle Conditioning Mist. I spritz it before brushing her, which I do EVERY DAY, otherwise we both pay for it! It keeps the matting to a minimum, smells nice and unlike other detanglers, doesn't make her greasy or wirey looking. Its keeps her nice and fluffy! Its pricey, but its the only one I have tried that works, doesn't weigh down her coat or make it look greasy. Isle of Dogs - No. 63 Detangle Conditioning Mist |
I usually clip my Maltese down to a couple of inches during the winter. I know he's going to be wearing clothes a lot more and it really helps with the matting. I have no idea about "Morkies," but I don't think Maltese coats really offer that much insulation, no matter how long they are. Having said that I wouldn't shave one naked; always leave an inch or two of hair. |
I grew up with a Maltese and have my a baby Ella Bean now - Maltese hair mats like crazy! I agree - it offers no protection from the cold, so I keep her (and my childhood Maltese Sammi) very short. That said, again, the power of an excellent conditioner, and detangler is just incomparable!!! |
Thank you so much i will also look into that, BOwie isnt one for clothes but he will wear a sweater if i put it on him. |
