Cleaning grout when they potty on the floor? Does anyone have a safe cleaning method of cleaning grout after your baby has gone potty on the floor? I'd also like to neutralize the smell so they don't return to the same spot....they will potty on the floor even if the door to the outside is open. What ups with that? They are 1 and 2 year old.....I've had the hardest time training them....Help!!!! |
I use Nature's Miracle on everything-carpet, hard floors, bedding-anything to get stains/smells out. I bet it would work on grout-just spray it on, let it sit for a bit, then wipe off and rinse. |
Wow...I am so grateful for this advice. My Tobi has to go potty indoors b/c of the weather and has made the grout in my kitchen all stinky. I will definitely put Nature's Miracle to good use!:) |
I use vinegar and water in a spray bottle. |
I think if your grout isn't sealed... the smell will stay in it... I have linoleum under my xpens in sunroom ... over our tile floor... because the grout isn't sealed... I believe the sealer inhibits anything from penetrating the grout. But I would try all suggestions to get the odor out. Good luck! |
I vote for Natures Miracle as well, while vinegar is a great cleaner and neutralizer, it doesn't get rid of the protein that causes a dog to return to the spot. You need a product that contains enzymes, which are actually beneficial bacteria that "eat" the protein. This does take time to work though, and the area can be cleaned with a regular grout cleaner afterwards. After thoroughly cleaning, a grout sealer is recommended, so that urine can't sink into porous grout, once this is done, clean up is a snap because urine can't sink into tile, so any cleaner, including vinegar, would probably be adequate. You can see any urine proteins by using a "black light" sold at pet stores and other place, urine residue shows up a bluish white. |
