hyper nipping 12 week old How do i stop hand nipping with 12 week old pup. She is very hyperactive and fiesty and loves to nip fingers. Tried replacing with own toys or teaching no....what else? |
Mine would do that too, and sometimes still tries. So, when she tries to nibble on my fingers, I place my finger on her nose and tell her "no" in my stern voice. She is 6 months old, and it seems to be working. |
Miles did that a lot at that age. He would nip at my fingers, and at my heels when I was walking around the house. So annoying!! I would react strongly every time, either yelling "Ouch!" or "No!", or clapping my hands loudly. It didn't seem like it was working at first, but he learned after a while. I think it's part of that puppy phase...wanting to nip and bite at everything. Keep teaching her...she'll catch on. :) |
I agree with the advice given above. Gus is still doing it at 12 months, but it's lessening. In addition to above, I move my hand out of reach from his mouth. |
Just say NO! Not to be rude but.......Just say NO! Stop playing or rough teasing w/your fingers & hands in any way. You are teaching and in essence "Training" your Puppy to bite and it can and will get worse as they get older. Apparently alot of people don't realize how serious this problem is. NO Dog Yorkie or any other Breed should be allowed to "Play" like that, just remember to you it's playing but for them it's "Reality" it's a behaviour that should NOT be Tolerated. If you do it correctly you can STOP him or her immediately. All it takes is consistency. It sounds like your Puppy has alot of pent up Energy? You should try "Walking" them a few times daily to drain them. Believe me, you would be surprised at how much that helps. Yorkies need to be constantly stimulated mentally & physically. Claim your Fingers back! Yorkies especially as Puppies are very cute it's very hard to be serious all the time about their "Training" since they are so irresistable. Good Luck! |
