Bath Time What is the best procedure for bathing my Yorkies? Where is the best place to bathe them? What about drying them? What shampoo do you recommend? Is this a good time to also brush teeth? Do you brush your dogs teeth everyday? What about the tooth cleaning chews, like from Pedigree (they are small square chews)? :animal-pa:animal-pa |
Well I bath once a week, and I do it in the sink, that way he is in a smaller space than the tub and he cant squirm around too much! I cant remember the name of the shampoo that I use but its an all natural tearless shampoo for puppies, I hope this helps alittle bit! |
I also bathe mine once a week. I do it in the sink. I use Minksheen shampoo. I brush their teeth everyday. |
I use the 'ol kitchen sink. I recently had a new one put in and made sure it had the spray attachment included. Piece of cake that way. I use shampoo with Coal Tar to keep the coat moist and shiny. I lather him up, hose him down, take him to the bathtub to skake off, then return to the sink to blow dry. We have the routine down so tight the whole proceedure only takes about 15 minutes. Gotta love Yorkie hair. It cleans and drys quickly and easily.:o) |

I wash their faces to get rid of the stinky stuff that comes from their eyes. If it is left there, it get hard, and hard to remove. I brush their teeth with a little rubber tip that goes on my finger, and have one for each dog. I use a toothpaste from the vet's office. It's called, "ProDental" and the brand is Top Performance. Then they never have stinky breath.:animal36:animal36 I also wondered if anyone gives their dogs teeth chews, like I mentioned before. Also, I wondered ~ when you give your dogs a bath, do you cover their ears? How about their eyes? When I use the sink spray, I am careful not to spray too close to their eyes and ears. Any secrets? |
i don't cover milu's ears when i bath her. i never bath her by myself though, because she gets really scared when i bath her, and she shakes, so i feel bad. i always start by putting a bath towel in the dryer before i start bathing her. get her plastic bathtub filled with water, and put her in it and water her body while my fiance washes her body, rinse off, conditioner, rinse off, then wash the head LAST, because that's the part she really hates! my fiance will wash milu's head, and while i am rinsing it off, he goes to get the towel out of the dryer. and we wrap milu in the big warm bath towel to dry her off, and then i run the hair dryer on milu while my fiance play with her, so she won't hate it as much. the whole process only takes about 15 minutes. (that's fast right?) a trainer told me to use a turkey baster to rinse shampoo off of the head because it's less scary for the dog that way. i should really try it, but i just want to get it over with (am too impatient) but i think it's probably a better idea! |

Scooter REALLY hates a bath. I think she's part cat. Jilly will let me do anything to her. She totally trusts me. After I bath and dry them (my husband does the blowdry), I put them in front of me on the counter on a towel, they sit quietly and I comb their hair and put a bow in their topknot. Scooter has really thick hair and Jilly's hair is long. After I put in her bow, I braid her topknot. She looks adorable! |

There is this stuff called Angels Eyes/Angels Glow and you sprinkle it on their food and its keeps their eyes from tearing and getting goopy, it also prevents staining on the hair around their eyes. Hope this helps. |

Where do you get that stuff called Angels Eyes/Angels glow???? My babies eyes don't tear up nearly as bad as they used too...I think alot of that has to do with their diet ..... |

I picked up a great tip from one of these bathing threads before - I microwave a towel to wrap Twinkle in after her bath...it stops her being so shivery xxx xxx |
The Best way to Bathe your pup..... From the time my baby was small, I have taken her into the shower with me. I snuggled her on my neck and bathed her carefully; now, she loves the shower and hops in everytime I let her. I have a sprayer that comes off the hook - I use it to get all the soap off - She loves the shower and sometimes curls up at my feet while I wash off - if you visit me, you have to watch out or the pups will join you! We bathe our boxer this way too - except my son bathes him in a big walk-in shower..... |
I also bathe once a week, we have a mud room with a sink and I also put there towles in the dryer so they will be warm, shampoo is buddy bath and I also clipped their toe nails. |
I bathe 3 dogs at time in the utility sink...use MinkSheen... |
Bath Time :aimeeyork I have 3 yorkies and I bath them every other week but after reading some of the posts, I may start bathing mine every week I thought it would dry their skin to much to bath them every week. I bath all mine in the tub, but I might try doing it in the sink. got some really good ideas from you all.:D |
OK, I ordered Minksheen! Thanks for this tip. Lots of good advice here. LOL! If I tried to take my little critters in the shower with me, they'd probably scale the shower door to get out!:D |
My little one loves baths. I put him in the tub and he just sits there, has the ocasional sip of warm water (he loves drinking warm water its the weirdest thing ever), and gets excited at the sight of his purple towel. He is not very fond of the hair dryer, but he just lays on his belly and puts up with it like a champ. Then Ill clean and shave his ears (which he actually enjoys) and then I brush his teeth (I only do it once a week though) He never has bad breath. |
I bathe Bailey once a week in the sink, while she's being bathed a towel is being warmed. She is small enough that I can hold her in one hand and wash her with the other. I think that helps cut down on her stress a bit. |
What about the winter, do you still bathe them once a week? |
