Grooming??? Hi, i have a 9 month old male yorkie named Enzo. I am trying to keep his coat long but as a first time yorkie owner iam a little unsure of grooming. I brush him every day but his hair on his belly is very fine and a lot of it has become matted, i was wondering if anyone else has this problem??? he also seems to be getting urine on his coat when he goes to the toilet so after a few days he starts to stink. i was thinking about keeping his belly hair shaved and the rest long??? any advise would be appreciated. :aimeeyork |

I have been told to try satin Sheen its used on horses, so I bought tail and mane it was cheap. As long as it might work and not cause a skin reaction why not. You can always add a scent to something neutral if you wanted to anyway. Why buy a product because it smells like almonds. I notified the company who makes the Italian detangler and they haven't gotten back to me yet. I wanted to become a distibutor of their products. Who knows. I don't want to continue to spend $39 for a 9 oz bottle of detangler.I use a mild shampoo tearless. |
Hi! :wavey: Welcome! :welcome4: :yorkiesar At 9 months he probably still has his puppy coat and they can mat easily. You'll need a fine tooth metal comb to gently comb thru the hair all the way to the skin to work out the mats. A detangler will more then pay for itself in helping with the real problem ones. Brushing alone simply won't reach the mats that develop close to the skin. Search in the Grooming section here and also the Product sections, you should find several threads discussing the different combs available. But to start with you should be able to find a fine tooth flea comb at any pet supply store. Trimming the hair on his belly and along the inside top of his hind legs will help with the pee problem. I also have baby wipes that I leave by the back door and wipe Yogi when he comes in. He is 3 months old and squats to pee so often has some...errr...overspray issues. :p And of course, please post some pictures of your little man when you can!! |
I found one of those metal combs in A beauty supply store, for A $1. This is what the groomer told me to get for Suzi. I also use A hair comb too, but always brush her out first, then get to the hard stuff. For Suzi she becomes easily matted around her legs too. And I have seen her actually lift her leg to pee :p |
thank you all for your advise. i have gone and got a small metal comb to try. all i have to do now is get him to sit still!!! |
