Eye closed after getting groomed? My Triss goes to a groomers monthly. She is the best groomer in the area with high ratings from local dog trainers, and so far no problems. Since she has been to the groomers she is keeping one eye closed or half shut. She had a flea bath today (Frontline isn't doing its job this year I guess.) Also, I had the hair on her face and feet trimmed. Its not swollen, cut, and theres nothing stuck in there that I can see. Maybe they accidentally nicked it with the clippers or scissors? Or maybe a reaction to the flea shampoo. Besides taking her to the vet tomorrow, which will probably end up costing over $50 for an exam and meds, what should I do? |
If it is the groomers mistake she sould pay for it. |
Maybe you could call the groomer and ask her for the exact names of the items she's using on your baby - and their ingredients. This way you'll have a list when you see your vet. Poor baby. I hope you find out what's bothering her eye. It's probably the flea treatment. |
Definitely take her to the vet and let the groomer know before hand that is what you are having to do as a result of her coming from the groomer. Let us know what the vet says, it's curious that you can't see any damage but you're right her eye may have been nicked or a reaction to flea med. The groomer may be able to give some insight also if you tell her the problem. |
Corneal Abrasion Possible Needs a vet exam. Happened to my boy. Had a corneal abrasion. Needed antibiotic ointment and atropine. Keep light and sunlight out of eyes. Anything could have caused it: shampoo, hair, scissors, fingernails, the dog itself scratching. Will also need a vet recheck in 1 or 2 weeks. If Frontline isn't working, have you tried the Frontline Plus? It controls the flea population. Also, my vet stresses that it must be put on the skin, not the hair. Let us know what the vet said. Sending good thoughts your way.:animal-pa |

hey Heather, sorry about your baby's eye. Ollie held his eye closed shortly after I got him and it was an abrasion. Something had to have happened at the groomers. I would call and ask if they will pay for the vet visit. Your baby may need ointment or medicine to prevent infection. Either way they should be responsible for the visit or at least pay most of it. Good Luck! Hope her eye heals quickly. |
Let us know how it works out. Hopefully, it will be a minor irritation that won't take long to get back to normal. Poor little sweetie. |
oh my poor wittle baby!!! Hope she gets to feeling better!! I agree you should definately call the groomer and tell her what is going on...Please let us know what happens!! |
I hope it is just a mild abrasion or reaction to getting some of the flea solution in the eye. I hope your little one is able to rest comfortably till you take her to the vet.Was she holding the vet closed upon picking her up? You would think the groomer would have advised you of anything pertinent. Ever since reading about a groomer that left a dog unattended I have been leary about groomers. I had an appointment with a local groomer to help me with top knots. I brought the 2 dogs in I had made the appointment for. The girl that worked for the owner had a dog on a grooming table and the dod she was styling was left on the table with her head in the noose, she walked away for the dog to assist me. At first I didn't think anything of it because the tables were right next to each other. When I was ready to leave and I wanted to purchase products she left the dog in this position and went to the front with a half wall inbetween her and the dog on the table to take my money for the purchases. It made me feel really uncomfortable. |
Yep! unfortunatly a trip to the vet for sure. I am an ex-groomer and it sounds like possibly your baby got flea soap in the eye! |
Thank you for the replies. I'm going to call the vet when they open and see if I can get her in. I will also call the groomer and mention the problem, but they dont open till 10. |
Hope all went well! |
Well, her eye was normal so it must've been irritation from the soap. I guess I will just request that the groomer not use that anymore and just stick with the gentle shampoo. |
