Angry yorkie! Every time I leave to go somewhere and Illy isn't coming with me, she throws a huge fit. She barks and nips at me and even bit my sister the other day. It starts as soon as she hears me pick up my keys. I can barely get out of the door without her escaping! Does anyone else's act like this? She is never left home alone for more than an hour at a time. I'm not sure how to fix this. Can someone please help? |
Sorry to hear that your experiencing this problem. Do you give your furbaby treats before you leave? Perhaps giving them a Kong with peanut butter w/ cheerios may help with the anxiety. |
I tried that, but then I read that it's rewarding the bad behavior. :( |
My little Raindrop does that. Not the biting part, but has a fit when I grab my keys and head for the door. She starts jumping around, and makes me feel bad that I am not taking her. I think it's because I was taking her all the time with me, and now when I know I am going places she cannot go, I have to say to her, NO Raindrop, you cannot go. She will jump up and down like she is trying to convince me. I think the biting part that your dog is doing, is just to get you to stay. |
Zoeybear has a screaming fit when DH leaves. She literally screams. |
Yep, Adie is like that and when I leave for work on Monday mornings my DH says she pouts and mopes around for hours. She has usually gotten used to it by Tuesday but she still pitches a fit every time I leave the house. If I tell her to "no" she will stop and slink off. I feel so guilty because I know she just wants to be with me. |
My yorkie usually attacks her toys when she know I'm about to leave out. She growls at them and have bitten parts of them off. |

Daisy stomps her front paws and barks at me, as soon as I pick up my keys. I tell her NO and she backs off and runs to the front window to watch me pull out of the driveway. Of course I feel terrible then, but I can't always take them with me. Does your dog know "sit"? Tell her no and make her sit. |
Yes she knows sit, but refuses to do it when she is all worked up like that. |
Have you tried distracting her so that she doesn't realize you are leaving?? It might not be as dramatic if she doesn't know your leaving... |

Daisy pitches a fit when I leave. As soon as she hears my keys, she will start grabbing my pant legs. She is very happy to see me when I get home from work, but definitely lets me know she doesn't like me to leave her. Now, if I go outside for just a second (even to take the trash out and come right back), she starts biting my pant legs to let me know that she wasn't happy that I left her inside. They definitely have a personality!! |
My Coco does the same thing. He bites at my pant legs. If I just stand at the door to watch my son go to the bus stop he goes nuts. my son can hardly get out the door. I have another yorkie so he is not alone so thats not it. That is the only time that he is aggressive. He just doesnt want you to leave. :aimeeyork COCO :aimeeyork PEBBLES |

i bought doggie steps and put a chair there so he can look at the window at his leisure.. keeps him really busy during the day since he loves looking outside |
Kayla does the same thing. Tina is our toy schnayzer and she and Kayla are about the same size. She throws a fit right along with Kayla even to the point of her bottom lip quivering. It looks soooo funny. They will pull on my purse or clothes or anything. Its miserable getting out the door with these two. |
Roxi does the EXACT same thing.... She barks and nips and jumps at me, even if I'm just putting my sunglasses on!! I have two, and Rocco doesn't do this, but Roxi does.... She just FREAKS OUT when I leave!! I have no idea what to do to stop it... I thought she would stop when we got Rocco, but nope, she still does it... As soon as I get the door shut she stops... And she doesn't do it to my BF, just me!! |
Ohhh it sounds like we have a lot of spoiled babies.... I have poodles and Tanjhei just does this high pitch bark/whine thing when I leave. Febi will just run to the door thinking she is going but occasionally she will let out the slightest cry. She isn't very verbal-what she does have to say was learned from Tanjhei :(. Anywayz I have gotten the antics down to a minimum by ignoring them when I am getting ready to leave. And when I come home I wait a few minutes before I greet them. I read these tricks in a training book somewhere. |
My Haley goes to the bank drive through window with me in the car. I have her leash hooked to the back seat and she can't get to the front. She watches out the back window all the way. She know she can't come to the Post Office so when I pick up my keys she runs to the kitchen window to watch me leave. We put a small wooden stool there for her so she can see out the window and she loves to watch for me to come home. She doesn't cry or make a fuss. She knows after the Post Office it's her turn to go to the bank,:car: Does your baby have access to watch out the window for you? |
Twinkle acts in a similar way when my one-year old goes for her nap and goes to bed in the evening....she will literally sit at the bottom of the stairs and whine and bark. I started distracting her with her favourite toy and now she'll come and sit by her toybox when I take the baby to bed and wait for me to get her a toy out. Sometimes she will still go to the bottom of the stairs and whine a little but she's a million times better than she was. xxx |
