Yeah, I think a lot of people do. Semi-related- we used to have a female dog named Bingo and for her entire life we almost always called her a him ("Have you feed her yet?", etc). :( We knew she was a girl too. |
I only have one male, and I had him neutered the day after I got him(at 5 1/2 mos), he actually does better at peeing on the pads than my girls, he gets right in the middle and squats..Never has lifted his leg in the house. Now, when we go outside for play time, he runs all over hiking his leg, but, not in the house. So, the answer to your question is a definite YES |

If you get him neutered early, before he even learns to lift his leg, he may always squat on the pads. If he learns to lift his leg, many people put a vertical "target" in the center of a pad like a 2 liter soda bottle filled with cat litter or something to weight it down. If you wrap a pad around it, it's easy to change. |
How this for oddness.... My 8 month old Suzi , lifts her leg up to pee on her pads... She's done this A few times and it was hilariouis. YES she is A girl, but, I guess she wanted to see how it felt like to be A boy? LOL . I only have her, so I really believe it is possible to train a boy pup to use the pads . ;) |

Boys can definitely be pee pad trained. I've had 4 males so far, and all used wee wee pads. I've found the "vertical target" approach works best.(As LadyMom mentioned). We use a 2 liter bottle filled with sand in the middle of the pad, and it works like a charm. We even bought the little red hydrant for use outdoors. This way they pee where we want them to, and not all over the place. By the way, both my boys are neutered but always lifted their legs. But NEVER marked in the house. :aimeeyork |
Lucky is trained to go on the pad at home but if we go to anyone elses house I put the bellyband on him. He will mark new places. |
odie was trained to use pads in 2 weeks when he was a puppy before i got him (got him when he was almost 8 weeks old) and then house broke him in about 3 or 4 =] |
Any ideas for this one - i'm out of ideas !! Have two males, Barkley and Toby. They are both trained on the pads and also outside. They have been just great until all of a sudden. Barkey has started to pee near the pad some of the time, on anything he can lift his leg on, which is most often the corner of my wall. Toby is still doing great right in the center of the paper. If Toby goes first, Barkley pees on his spot. Both are three years old. No other problems they are just great little guys. I have not tried the water bottle thing yet but will. I am guessing Barkley wil ignore it and go pee on the corner again. Thanks to all in advance !! |

Chester uses his potty pads or he did before we moved, I just put several down next to each other , and he does lift his leg to wee wee |
DJ was pad trained when we adopted him at 6 yrs old. He would lift his leg outside but squat on the pads. My guess is that he was taught early by his previous owners (probably lived in a condo). |
I have a little guy, got him at 5 1/2 mos and got him neuterd the next day. When he's in the house, he stands on the pad and pees, outside he will run and lift his leg. I think it's easier if you get them neutered before they ever start lifting. On the other hand, my son got his male neutered at 5 1/2 mos. he started lifting his leg around 12 weeks and has never stopped. When he comes over here he pees all over, so, g-ma has a belly band ordered for him for when he comes over here to visit |
