What do I need to be prepared for? Hi everyone, Daisy is scheduled to be spayed on November 20th. She will be 10 months then. I had debated on whether to get her spayed b/c of her size, but after reading about smaller yorkies doing fine on here, I feel better about getting her done. Another reason is she came into heat 2 weeks ago and she has not been herself. I never want to put her through this again, not to mention it is a big mess!! I am going to have the pre-op blood work done on her before just to make sure everything is ok. So, I am already worried & scared, but what do I need to buy for her beforehand to make her more comfortable after I pick her up? She has onesies already. |
Wow, Keep me posted. Im getting my Lola done in about 2 weeks. She is 2.5 years and has had 2 litters. Its hard on them.....Let me know ...... |
i didnt have to buy anything extra for her. all did was make sure she was very comfortable.. its so pathetic to see them after that.. very sad. i cried my eyes out.. but the next day, she was raring to go..thank god |

I spoiled her that first day with lots of treats, special food and lots of attention. But I think it did more to comfort me then her. :p She never bother her stitches so no need for a cone or onies. Keeping her out of water was the hardest thing. She loves the water! |

I am with you on this one! Fiona just turned 7 months old on the 29th, and getting spayed on tuesday the 4th, and im a nervous wreck that she will come into heat before hand, but i think we are good. I know what to expect since I used to help out with surgeries ( i used to be a vet tech) and i'm still nervous. My vet is telling me they wont do pre blood work on her since she is at a good weight and a healthy puppy, and im not sure if i agree with that. I will tell you that you will have to keep her confined for about a week, must be leash walked only, no baths, cannot get her belly wet, and you need to keep her low key. they will probably send her home on some antibiotics, and may even use a fentanyl patch on her that transmits pain relief to her- its usually called a pain patch- but some vets dont do that. i do know that i drop her off in the am, and pick her up in the pm.... good luck, and i hope all will be well with my baby girl on tuesday! |
Are you going to be leaving her there over night, or taking her home? With both dogs that I have, i have taken them home. It's less stressful and I have my eye if anything goes wrong. What I usually do is keep them in a room, away from dogs and other people. I usually sleep on the floor with them with lots of pillows and quilts (so they don't have to jump). Just keep it as quiet and calm as possible. Good luck! |
I'm so glad your getting her spayed!!!! Your right it is alot on them!!! I didn't buy anything extra just made sure she had her favorite blankies around so she could cuddle in them. Let us know how everything goes!! I'm sure she'll be just fine!! |
Thanks everyone for your support & encouragement. It is so good to get to talk with others who care about their dogs just as much as I do and want the best for them!!! Thanks again!! I will keep you posted on how she does! I will be dropping her off at 8:30 AM and picking her up the same day at 4:00 PM. They said I could leave her overnight but that they didn't have 24 hour care, so I am definitely bringing her home the same day!!! |
