Help! Do belly bands work for older, bigger dogs? Do belly bands work for older, larger dogs? Quincy, my nine year old, epileptic Springer has peed in his crate for the last 3 days and I'm about to lose my mind! My hubby is at sea (Navy) and I'm working, have 3 dogs, 4 cats and a 4 yr old son. I need some kind of solution for Quincy. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have an infection because we've gone through this before and it turns out to be a behavior issue. Here's a little background and a lesson to research your breeder: We met Quincy when we went to his breeder to check the place out with the possibility of getting a puppy when we moved into our house. Well, we met and fell in love with Quincy and asked the breeder if she would keep him for 2 months until we closed on our house. She said yes and we bought a crate to have him flown to us the weekend we moved in. He was 5 months by this time and we are convinced he spent most of his time in that crate with shavings and learned to pee in there. We have always had house breaking issues with Quincy, even before the epilepsy (started at 1 yr). We have to keep him in his crate for this reason as well as for fear he could hurt himself if he had a seizure when we were not home. He fell down the stairs once during a seizure when we were home. The reason I said research your breeder is because Quincy's breeder cut off all communication with us when we told her about his epilepsy. We found out that she had had epileptics before and we also heard she was blaming his epilepsy on us. Our vet said she was nuts and that Quincy's epilepsy was most likely hereditary. Needless to say, our second Springer, Tucker, came from a different breeder. Sorry for the long post. I would love to hear about anyone's experience with belly bands on a larger dog and if you know where I can buy them in Canada. Thanks! |
Boo was 5 yrs old when we got him from a rescue, that said he was house broke...he's not! He'll ask to go outside if you are home with him, but he doesn't hold it if he's home alone. So we got a belly band for him and he wears it whenever he's home alone. He hates it, but he wears it just fine. |
What size is Boo and is there a certain type of belly band that works better for him? Thanks! |
I have been using them on my son's incontinent lab. They work fine and I was using them with cloth diapers---- save the planet and all. I am actually making him some all in ones---- like baby diapers, but for him. I am using a layer of PUL for the outside--- so no chance of leaking in the house at all-- especially at night. It will make it easier for the whole household to help with the diapering as they won't have to keep asking me how to fold the diapers and liners. |
