Any NEWS yet!!! Do we have a new baby boy!!!???? |
Yay! Ok so my parents haven't said I can have him, but they have agreed to let him stay with us for a few days to see if he gets along with our dog, cat, and our family. He goes back on Tuesday. He is soooo sweet. Definitely needs to be neutered lol. My mom had to take a stop at this store so I brought him in and he was great with everyone :). Seems big for a Yorkie but I have never really seen one before. I don't mind though he is the perfect size! He is perfect size for carrying/laps. |

Hopefully it will work out... but I'm afraid that they really aren't giving him a chance for 3 days... sometimes it takes a couple weeks for him to get adjusted. At any rate, you are getting CLOSER!!!! How big is he? Some yorkies are just bigger. Mine are 8 and 14 lbs... the standard is 4-7. I like 'em bigger. |
Tuesday, eh? I'd be surprised if that's not his permanent home! Congrats! |
Hehe, well I'm fine with it and I think the owner likes us but it all depends on my parents. They were clear that bringing him home for these few days does NOT mean I get to keep him. Thank you for the support! I just brushed him and he sat there and rolled on his tummy so I could brush his tummy! He is sooo sweet. |
Any pictures yet?! |

That's soooo exciting Vanessa!! Keeping him around for a few days and you should know for sure if he's the guy for you!! Where are pictures of him!?!?!? (Don't forget the vet records ;)) |
Yorkies have a way with winning people over. Good luck with your parents. P.S. Post pics, pretty, pretty please |
......... have your parents given you a verdict yet? Is he a keeper? or are you waiting for a little while??? |
I am excited for you too . With the dog comes not only the love and devotion but a lifetime of responsibility ..you seem up for it all . May all your days together be joyful ones . There is nothing quite like a dog ..big or small . |
I love him already and I want to keep him sooo bad. I just don't know if it is the best for my dog right now, plus the issues when I go to college. I would LOVE to have him. He is the sweetest thing in the world. My dog is sooo old. Like he only has a few months left. He is on pain medicine and arthritis stuff (glucosamine or something), yet he still limps. He cries for 20 minutes before he can lay down to sleep, and he can't even sit down because of his hips. He is deaf, has tumors, and can hardly hold his pee/poo in long enough. He is so sad when I do anything to Panne. You can just see it in his eyes. I don't know if I want to do that to him. But I want him SO BAD. This is really hard for me. |
Maybe having a younger around your older one, might give him a little more life in him and give him a good last few months. |

That's something to consider. He made it up the stairs twice today and he usually doesn't even try. I suppose that is a good thing. He is soo smart I taught him sit and down already :). |
Nov 4th Yorkie Election Day! Ok so not only do we elect our President tomorrow, but Vanessa family votes on whether or not they will increase the family size!! I vote yes... how will it turn out Vanessa?? :aimeeyork OR :thumbdown :( |

I am really curious about if you get to keep him or not. Please update us and let us know if you have a new little family member. |
Do you get to keep the little pup? I'm as anxious to see what your parent's decided as I am about the election results coming in. |
I have been following this thread and tuned in this morning to see the result and.................I still don't know. <sigh> I hope Vanessa lets us know...soon. I hope it's good for her. |
I really cannot get you out of my mind since I’ve read your poem. I tune to your page every day, hoping to see the results of a happy ending, the way you want it to be. Please keep us posted, because you have all our concern.:aimeeyork |
You will be the happiest person with your new dog. Yorkies are unlike other dogs. Their personalities are wonderful. They are very smart also. I wish you the best of luck with your baby. They provide so much love. You'll never be sorry. Tell your parents thanks from me. :) |
Hi, sorry I have not responded. It was a great experience to have Panne for the last 5 days. I probably will not be adopting him. If you or anyone you know is looking for a wonderful dog in the Bay Area PM me and I will be happy to give you the email of the person who is selling him. The bad things are that he isn't neutered and has taken to marking in the house, he is not cuddly, and has sooo much energy. I limited him to on leash or in the exercise pen but just when I look away for two seconds to get a poop bag before a walk he would mark (just a few drops). This could be fixed by neutering and training. He also needs 4 baby teeth removed and his teeth cleaned (done when he gets neutered), which would be in the $200s to $500s I think. He is obsessed with licking/chewing on my dogs privates. My dog doesn't do anything but he does this anytime he sees my dog and pants/drools because of this obsession. This also may be fixed when he gets neutered. He tolerates being held but he does not like to sleep or cuddle on your lap. That's the main thing I was looking for in a small dog. He also has soooo much energy. I took him on four fast walks/small jogs a day and he still wanted to go on more walks. I was looking up more on Yorkies and maybe they are not the breed for me, as I really want a dog that likes to cuddle when watching TV or relax after a long day. I suppose the energy he has caught me off guard as I thought if given enough exercise he would cuddle but that is not the case. One last thing is his fur is very fine and tangles easily. I brushed him daily but it was soo tangly it took 20 minutes each time. He is great when you brush him he just sits there. When you want to do his tummy you flop him on his back and he just lays there. Don't get me wrong, he is a great dog that deserves a great home. He LOVES other people/dogs and loves to play chase with other dogs (big and small). He would be ok with cats. He whines out of excitement upon seeing other people/dogs which I wasn't really sure what to do about (any suggestions?). He is very smart and learned sit and down very quickly. He also learned "go potty" since I wanted him to go in a certain spot. He was easily exercise pen trained and I can see him being a great agility dog. I'm still considering keeping him or not. He also learned fetch but only plays when he wants to. It is the cutest thing to watch. Again, if you know some one who might be interested in him PM me. I know he isn't mine but I still want him to find a good home. Another good thing about him is he hardly barks and doesn't whine or bark in places with a lot of people (he only whines when there is one person on walks). He is great in stores. On top of the vet costs she wants a $650 adoption fee which is another reason I'm not sure I should adopt him. I can afford that but I would much rather have that money for his future if he gets a medical condition or something. His high energy/grooming needs are a bit more than I was expecting and even though I have time now I worry I will not have enough in the future. I am going on vacation this weekend (we get a few days off school) and am returning Tuesday. She is really busy but says I can take care of him starting then until he finds a permanent home with me or some one else. Thanks for reading, Vanessa |
My two are also not very cuddly until sleep time, then they become cuddle bugs... I got lucky though, because my two have a lot of lazy moments. Maybe look into rescuing an older yorkie that is calmer? Truthfully, a lot of people think of these little dogs as "lap dogs" and they really aren't... they are little spit fires. A great dane is more of a lap dog than a yorkie.... |
Vanessa, Perhaps you should look into another yorkie? My little yorkie girl is very cuddly, she is also very calm---but she is 8 years old. Have you thought of rescuing a dog that age? Small dogs live long, so it's not really old as much as "adult". My poodles have always been very cuddly. I tend to prefer female dogs. I have only one male dog---and maybe i'm wrongly thinking that all dogs will be like him, but he is not very cuddly. He is a chi... i don't think that I would get another. |
I have a boy and a girl, they are both very loving and cuddly and they fight who is going to sit on my lap. I think that its very smart of you taking time to make a decision. You have very valid pros and cons...I wish you luck with your decision. |
That is true. I was sucked into Yorkies because of their cuteness. It is a good thing I was allowed a trial period. I'm looking into other breeds, possibly Papillons or Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I really want a dog that is smaller and can easily be carried places. It's hard to know what is best. Here is a video of him: 1103082025.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting |
He is adorable! |
