My protector My little Gidget is only 5 months old and 5 lbs. She never barks at company or at the door etc. when the other dogs bark. I have been extremely busy with my insurance business and have not been able to spend much time with them. I took Gidget with me to the office Saturday and my husband took Max(yorkie) with him to run around. (gidget gets car sick right now) Anyway she was sleeping on my lap and my husband walked in the office. She jumped up in my lap and barked and barked like a rottweiler at my husband, even after he called her name and tried to calm her down. It was so funny. She has never done anything close to that. She has alos decided that she will tell us when its time to get up in the morning. I close the bedroom dor at night and in the morning she stands at the door barking until we get up. This has only been in the last few days. I use to crate her but at 6:00 am she would start barking (way to early for insurance agents)hahaha I guess Gidget now thinks she is the alpha running the household. I guess I'm going to have to change that. ANy suggestions? |
Wow, you sure she doesn't have some kinda rooster in her? :p You could try exercising her out a lot before she sleeps, to tire her out so to speak, and then they should sleep more throughout the night. Another thing is if they just sleep all day long, then they won't really sleep much at night either... |
Gidget sounds like Toto! Sometimes if she is sleeping really soundly, she responds to a noise that way but as a rule, she doesn't bark either! I think that she does it if she is startled! Toto suffers from "rooster syndrome" too!! I have insomnia but always do "quiet things" to let Papa & Toto get their "beauty" sleep until 4:45 AM! Just this week, she has started jumping on Papa's chest and licking his beard at about 3:30 AM!!! Since he has an hour commute each way to his office, he really needs that extra hour zzzzz! We have tried the playing before bed and she goes to sleep really tired ... just wakes up early! Wonder if they make tiny little doses of "Ambien" for Yorkies!?! ;) |
AGAIN this morning she barked at the bedroom door for an hour. I didn't want to respond to her thinking she will then learn that she can get her way. I got up and never heard another word. |
I can relate to the early riser.... my dogs don't know or care if it is Saturday or Sunday. They are ready to get up around 4:30... our usual morning awakening. The two older dogs will go outside, then come in for their treat and head back to the bed. Thanks Goodness! ;) But NOT Trevor... it's up for at least 2 hours before he's tired and ready for his morning nap. Of course by then, I'm wide awake and couldn't go back to sleep. :( But I can't really get mad at him, as we go to bed very early (8:30-9:00) and he's had his 8 hours of beauty sleep. Oh well... such is life!! :p Cyndie |
