Coco's spay appointment reschedules! Ok so I bought more time. By like a week. So instead of getting it done tomorrow the 19th, I'm having her do it on the 25th. I feel much better about this change. I just felt like maybe I didn't have confidence in the vet even though I think her vet is great. I was just abnormally scared, not just a nomal kind of scared for her. So I felt like it was a gut feeling. So I called around and got directed to a website by one of the other vets (random vet I spoke to). They spay for $50 and are so good with animals. I talked to the vet at the clinic and she wants me to bring coco in so she can play with her and get her comfortable. She said she's even pull teeth if necessary. I asked all the right questions and they use Isofloryn (sp?) and everything. So I'm saving over $200 and I feel so much better about her appointment. Just thought I'd give you an update. Well now I can buy her more stuff. |
oh wow Nobella thats great ... and its cheaper too that perfect! |
It's not as much about the money, though it definetely helps, for some reason I just felt better with this doctor than her own. I just felt more assured about her safety, as opposed to the typical vet attitude of get over it, she'll be fine. |
what was it about ur reg vet that made u feel uncomfy? |
I don't know. Call it mothers intuition, but something just didn't feel right. I thought it was just because I was scared for the surgery, and I am, but it was like freaking out scared, not normal scared. I kept having bad thoughts about what his surgery room looks like, if it was clean enough, and what if something happened. I can't pin point what it was about him that made me nervous, even though I consider him a very knowledgeable and friendly guy who adores Coco. |
Sometimes you have to go with your gut instinct. I can't believe it's $50! I spend over $300 for neutering! |
I got Maggie spayed for $50 too! Around here we have this place called "Angels for Animals". You can adopt dogs and they are only $90... all of them. They are spayed/neutered and have all their shots. This is where I got my first dog. Well, they have a spay/neuter program for other dogs and the cost is minimal. I think it's great that some of our local vets volunteer for this. Best thing is: The one i went to is one of the best vets around here! |
I am glad that you are feeling better about this vet...we did the same thing..our normal vet did not spay our girls we used a speciality 24 hr center...our vet is not small animal and I wanted someone who could really work with Magic since she was so little...we had a great experience there and it was cheaper...plus we got to bring them home that same day!! You have to be comfortable and that is what is important...CoCo is going to do great!! |
Its good you rescheduled. Even better that is gonna be cheaper now! |
of course now I'm buying more stuff for her...so it defeats the purpose of it being cheap..hehe |

oh i know the feeling so i can understand. just wanted to get a lil more info towards ur decision. :) |
I paid $366 when I got Biddy spayed... Good luck Coco!!! |
I know her vet was charging me over $250 for spaying and then $25-35 PER TOOTH. I thought his prices were outrageous. I know a lot of you have probably paid more but I wasn't prepared for that. |
Nobella, That seems too cheap...why is it so reasonable? I think I spent around $400 total with all the shots, medication, etc. when Stomper got neutered. That sounds too good to be true (not to disappoint you). I would ask why they are so much cheaper - they should have a good reason. So....does that mean we can meet up on Friday at the park??!!!!! |
They are cheap because they just love animals and it's a nonprofit organization. They mostly handle medical stuff for rescues and they are very much for spaying and neuturing your dog for their health. So the lady said, that the doctors they have their have their own practices elsewhere and just volunteer to do the surgeries out of the goodness of their hearts. I'm not disappointed, I'm actually really happy. After talking to the vet, I felt so assured that all is ok. I came to realize yesterday that there are a lot of programs out there that just really care about getting your dog fixed so they don't need a ton of money, because they care about the dog. I can't meet up friday though because my family has decided to visit me. I did find THE COOOOOOOOLEST small dog park in Pleasanton. It's the cleanest and awesomest park ever. All fenced in and clean. I let her off leash and she played for 2 and a half hours yesterday!!!! |

Nobella, I am so glad you feel more comfortable.. Like someone said earlier, its best to go with your gut instinct |
I am glad that you are going with your gut... My girl is getting spayed now :( for her health, I have no idea how much it will cost... but I know it is at least 68 for the blood panel, and 35 for extra pain meds. Enjoy shopping :) |
Please let us know of your girls progress. I just know she'll be great. |
I am really scared about this too..I still dont have Kelsey fixed yet. I think i'm comfortable w/ her getting the surgery done b/c the vet she goes to is wonderful and treats her well it's just really expensive...like $200 something? My mom said the human society does it for $15 but I wouldn't dare take her there...Does anyone live in Orlando, Fl. that knows of a good/cheap place to get this done? |
Plenty of people I know have taken their dogs to get fixed there and it's been fine. As long as you ask all the right questions, why not? The vets there have just as much experience, and sometimes more than your own vet. The only difference is their vet works volunteer for the love of animals, the regular vets love animals too but they also love to gouge us a bit for money. |
Wow! Great price. You walk through the doors of a vet in my area and its $100. You made the right decision. I always go with my intuition. ;) |
Nothing as solid as momma intuition as I like to call it..AND no more crying. I'm not as upset, I think the new doc just eased my mind with a virtual hug, and a compassionate tone in her voice. |
Did you go to the dog park over by you? We should meet there sometime. I also would like to know which vets you are talking about. Are they here in Pleasanton? I like mine and he is very reasonable but I wonder if I need one that is more into small dogs as a speciality. Would you let me know who yours are? |

Well I was really afraid of that too...but this place is a strict clinic...Your dog can't have ANY diseases, fleas, ticks, or anything of that sort. That's why they do an exam before hand to make certain there's nothing. They also said they take vets records to make sure they are healthy. So I'm not worried. |
