I am so proud of Rickles Hi Everyone- I am so excited I had to tell people who I knew would understand and be so happy. First, I haven't been on for awhile because I fractured both my hips and was out of commission for some time. I am much better now. Anyway for the great thing that happened. As some may recall I am Rickles 6th owner and he has a lot of separation anxiety and then a couple of years ago we were attacked by a St. Benard and from that moment on Rickles has been afraid of ALL dogs in the outside world. He screams to the top of his lungs when he sees another dog. Taking him to a vet is awful because we have to wait in the car and when it is our turn I have to jump out with him and run him through the lobby to a room. If he even gets a glimpse of another dog he starts to scream. Everyone at the vet hospital is on alert when we come. I got a yorkie puppy about a year ago and they love each other and then the shelter talked me into taking a Yorkiepoo (9 mo. old) and the three of them get on great. Anyway thats where today comes in. Rickles had a grooming appointment this morning and I carried him and standing on the other side of the glass door was a little dog (normally this would set Rickles off totally) anyway we got out of the car and the two dogs did a nose to nose on each side of the door and nothing happened. The lady picked her dog up and we went in and nothing happened. Rickles saw another dog pass by and nothing happened. He was just prancing around looking at everything. The girl couldn't get over that he wasn't making a sound, he was just acting normally. I have never been so proud in my life. Maybe having 2 brothers at home now has helped with his fear of other dogs? Thanks for letting me share my good news. |
That's great. I bet it did make a difference having a couple of brothers at home. You must feel so proud of her!!! |
This is such marvelous news. Congrats and kudos to you for being such a great parent. :D Sorry to hear about your hips. I hope you're all better now :) |
:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::bravo: |
Woohoo, that's TREMENDOUS. You should be quite proud. I love it. You just increased that dog's quality of life about tenfold. Congratulations, and keep up the good work. |
:bravo: Between having two new siblings in the house and all the love and patience you have given him, Rickles is a awsome baby, you must be so proud of him. Give him a great big :hug: from everyone here. I know what you are feeling, as my Zeke was attacked when he was a year old, and he disliked everyother dog in the world. Last year on his fifth birthday we brought home Baxter. It took Zeke 3 months before he would even come into the same room with Bax. And then he would sit there and look in the other direction. Now a year later (whew what a long time) they play and even sleep on the sofa together. Life is good! |
Good job, Rickles! & hugs to Mommy for her patience with you. PS-I hope you are feeling better. |
Wonderful to hear. Was Rickles the first, and the other two came later? If so, how did you introduce them? |
How Wonderful!! What a difference!! You must be doing something right! You have every right to be proud! Please give your little guy a hug from me! |
:good job: |
That's absolutely wonderful!!!! What a good guy Rickles is!!!! Having brothers in the home has most certainly helped to balance Rickles out!! Dogs have a way of balancing each other! I would definately NOT shield Rickles from other dogs in the future.. Our babies can't get over their issues by being shielded from them. They need to face them....that will help balance them.! I wouldn't worry about Rickles anymore...he obviouly is OK with other dogs now!!! Kudo's to his brothers and parents that brought them into the home! |
