Not a Yorkie Question Since yesterday Ive been watching very close a beautiful girl (Poodle mixed) at the animal services site, but I don't know much about poodles, health, temperament, grooming. I feel bad for even thinking of getting something other than a Yorkie, but it brakes my heart to see those little faces so scared.I will really appreciate any information that any of you can share. |
No sorry I don't know much about poodles but good luck to you ;) |
I foster for a Yorkie rescue and we ended up with some poodles...I LOVED them... They are very smart and the would run and leap like gazelles...they are different than having a Yorkie but I have enjoyed all the ones that I have fostered... and they got along great with my guys |

I forgot to mention they truly are smart dogs as well! |
I dont know why you would feel bad about possibly giving a home to a dog in need....who says it has to be a yorkie?? You should feel good about that! I had a poodle/bichon mix for 17 years! She lived a long and healthy life and was very good natured and smart! I really didnt have any issues with her. As far as the grooming goes it was much the same as the Yorkie...grooming was necessary on a monthly basis. She was all white, which can be a job in itself (keeping them white i mean!) But she was a good dog. I also did daycare for someone that had 2 standard poodles and he loved them! Good dogs!:) Good luck on your decision...and God Bless you for wanting to give a pet a better life!! |

I called yesterday, but did not an answer, today the same thing, so I'm going tomorrow. PetHarbor.com: Animal Shelter adopt a pet; dogs, cats, puppies, kittens! Humane Society, SPCA. Lost & Found. |

I always try to stay away from white dogs for that same reason, how can I prevent tear stains and the usual staining on their hair? |
Sorry about that but to be completely honest with you if i could i would TAKE HER in a heartbeat! She looks like a cuddly little love bug! YOu cant make a mistake when you give your love to an animal! She is toooo cute! And like i said they are much like a yorkie good loving and easy to raise! Quote:

Hi! I currently have custody of my grandmother's poodle. My grandfather has alzheimers and she just couldn't take care of them both any longer. She is the only poodle that I have ever had, but she is great! She is very loving and follows me everywhere. She was also a rescue dog. She came from the humane society and our vet thinks she was probably in a puppy mill. The temperment seems to be pretty much the same as a yorkie. She doesn't require as much daily grooming as a yorkie, but needs clipping more often. She is such a little sweetie, but she will probably be looking for a new home soon. My grandmother has told me that she won't be able to take her back. And Katie (the poodle) doesn't like my dogs. She likes to play with them on her terms, but Captain Jack doesn't know when to stop! He aggravates her until she has to be mean to him. She needs a home where she is an only dog, or maybe with an older dog! Good luck....I hope you can get in touch with them soon!!! oh....I almost forgot. The tear stains are easier to deal with on a poodle because their whole face gets shaved! I love keeping Katie in a frufru modified continental cut!!:) |

A good friend of mine took in a poodle rescue. He was 7 years old when she got him and is now 15 years old. I can say that he is very sweet most of the time. But I don't know if it was because he was a rescue, he only likes my friend. If you get near her when she's holding him, he gets very aggressive. The hubby can't sleep in the same bed at times...lol Goodluck on your decision. I think taking in a rescue is always the best thing to do  |
Ah....I took a look at the link you posted and what a cutie pie she is!!! :) It said she was also part Shih Tzu. I have 2 Shih Tzu's and I think they are very loving dogs. They hardly ever bark. Good Luck. :goodluck: Let us know if you get her. |

I was also gonna say that I do alot of rescue work with our shelter and they are not great at guessing dog breeds. They called me one time with a "shih tzu/poodle mix" when I got there to pick him up he was a poodle with a natural tail!!! He just didn't have it docked. She may be a full poodle. She looks like it from the pic! |
Update I was at the shelter before they opened, this little girl has 2 holds, the first has to claim her on Oct 31, the second by the first days of Nov, I gave all my information just in case. Even if I dial the number in their site, the call does not go to them, it goes through 311 operator, and they transfer you to them, tht's why when I called Sat, and Sun. I was in hold forever, with the elections and early voting they are busier than usual . I'll keep on looking :( |
