Hairspray or gel for dogs?

I'm trying to grow out Brutus' hair and it's almost there but he still has these hairs that will not stay up. Do they make like a gel or hairspray for dogs? I've attached some pictures of what he looks like before a band and after. These little stray hairs drive me crazy!

Also he's going through such a big color change all of a sudden as he's nearing 8 months! I don't know if you can see it in the picture but the hair on his back is starting to turn silver and the hair on his head has a mixture of everything. Is there anyway to tell what he'll look like when he's older?

What a precious boy! I have Chris Christensen's "Super Hold" Waterless Coat Spray (can sez it is a supreme waterless fixative providing amazing long lasting hold). I only use this for the show ring, however, as I'm nervous about over-exposing their eyes. #1 All Systems has a setting and styling gel called Invisible Hold that I like.

His color sounds and looks good in the picture. Mine all go through a smoky gray stuff and then the adult color comes after that. But they all seem to break differently. Just have to hang on to your hat and wait and see. If you met his parents, his color will probably be in that range.

Thank you! I'm going to look into that syling gel now. Thanks for the tip on the ears too. I've been attempting to groom him myself and when I went to shave his ears he moved and I cut too much off so I had to do the other one to make it even. I'll let it grow out now without touching it.

I met his mother and she had a very light gray coloring and I didn't get to meet his father but I saw a picture of him in the breeders stud magazine and he was darker like this picture of his grandfather. I'm not sure which color I prefer it doesn't matter much but a combo of the two would be nice. Thanks again!

Plush puppy makes a sticky cream made just for those stray hairs. I use it and it works really well:)

He is beautiful !!! :) My groomer uses hair spray for dogs and I think she gets it from Jeffers or another grooming supply company. We go there once and a while to give me a break as I do all my grooming to. I can already picture him in full coat... wow he is going to awesome........ Looks like he is very photogenic too !!!! Nice pics. :)

The Vellus spray is more for finishing a coat for show - it lays the hairs down and makes them behave, but it doesn't hold them in place - more like a coat or grooming spray.

Thank you! I have a stupid question I think. Why can't I just use people hair gel? Does it have something in it that would be bad? I have so many suggestions from all of you that now I can't decide which product to buy! :p

A lot of people use "people" products on their Yorkies. The only thing I worry about is damaging their eyes. I have cruised the baby care aisle at the store and I've used baby shampoo/conditioner, etc., but I much prefer the dog products. Not sure if they have a styling gel for babies, but if they do, I'd give it a try.

Thanks CJ! I know where I'm coming when I need help! I have just one more question for you. I gave Brutus a bath the other day and I read a post from you that for the final rinse you used 1 oz of olive oil, 1 tsp of conditioner and 8 oz of water. So I decided to give it a try. I'm not sure what I did wrong but Brutus was a greasy mess! I couldn't get the oil out so I brushed him and left it overnight and gave him another bath yesterday. The oil is out and his coat has never been silkier but I'm just not sure why it didn't work the first time. Maybe I didn't rinse as much as I should have?

Do you have pictures of your yorkies?

I don't know how many "wispy" hairs there are but I just put my finger in my jar
of valeline petroleum jelly and lightly lift the hair up. Works for me???

i tried the vaseline in lexi's hair to try and hold it in one place.
two seconds later shes rubbing against anything she could to get it out.
the couch, the walls, the rug, her furry toys. that didnt work for me...

So sorry, I guess what works for one doesn't for another. Crystal doesn't even know
I put it on - there is no scent. You may have put way too much on. If you had some
oil on your finger and there was a shine to it , that is what my finger looks like. You
don't actually see any vaseline on your finger. I'd get the spray since this gave her a bad experience but cover her eyes and nose
when you use it.

is so funny cause she see me going into the bathroom and she knows
something is up. i try to get her mind off it, two seconds later im trying to
pet her, and put the stuff in her hair, she just wont let me... shes a real
witch...i can never touch her head or face at anytime, it drives me nuts

I have 3 show dogs , I use a little human hair gel for the hair of their faces and it is ok . You don't have to put very much .

I just wanted to say that your Brutus is so handsome. I do have a question though. My Brutus will be 2 years old in January, he still has not changed color, he hasn't even started. Is this normal?

Thanks! You know I'm not sure. Brutus started to change around 5 months but nothing drastic. The changes are really starting now and he's almost 8 months. Maybe you can ask one of the breeders here. I'm curious too!

At 2 years, he has his adult coat color. From here on out it may fade, but what you see is what he is. And yes, he's normal, just probably a black. ;)

Click on the link and scroll almost all the way to the bottom of the page. On the right hand side is stuff called TopKnot Gel. I used to use this at work. I am not sure if it says to wash out right away but I use it and I dont wash it out right away. It doesn't harm anything to be left in between baths.

Dont use human gel unless you find some made for babies, THe alcohol content is way to high to use on dogs and might dry his hair out really bad, plus if for some reason he gets wet, it could get in his eyes and that isn't good either.
