Any advice? My husband and I have decided to get a Yorkie. This will be our first puppy and we are really excited. My biggest concern is that we both work full time. Will this negatively affect our puppy? I looked into some dog day care but I am unsure if that is necessary. Can anyone give me some insight? I really want a puppy but is it ok to leave him or her unattended? |
I am away at work for 7.5 hours per day. I think the key is a 15-30 min walk before I leave and again sometime in the evening. When they are really young the crate works great. I found that to be too long to leave her in the crate when she got older and slept less. I leave her in my bedroom now with lots of thing to chew. I think it helps to teach them to be independant, take dog training , and let them sleep in your room since you are gone much of the day. Bonnie |
One problem I see with leaving a very young and small puppy unattended is the chance for them to become hypoglycemic. Since both you and your husband work full time, I would get a puppy that is at least 16 weeks old. After it's had all it's vaccinations, I think doggy day care is a good idea :) It will help socialize the puppy, help release all that puppy energy and I think just make for a happier puppy. Of course this is just my opinion. I wish you the best of luck! |
