Will she jump off the bed?
 

Ok, So, Zoe is 4months old and weighs 2.5 Lbs. I am dying to put her up in bed with me at night but I am so afraid she will jump off and hurt herself. I had her on the couch with us the other night and she jumped off and was ok but I am still concerned. Has anyone else felt this way or am I being too protective? I just worry because I obviously don't want her to get hurt but also I am trying to avoid a ridiculous vet bill. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have pet stairs next to my bed so my dogs use those... You could try that?

I can try that. I think i'll wait till she is a little better house broken before I do that though. Don't want her sneaking off and pooping everywhere. :)

If you put her up there with you any other time does she try to jump off? At that age they really have no concept of distance.

Gracie jumped off the couch once and didn't hurt herself, but it did scare her :eek: and she hasn't tried jumping off anything again. We've put a small step stool and she'll use it to go up and down. It only took one afternoon of showing her how to use it and the benefits of being able to come and go as she pleased. We've never had any trouble with the bed as she has always been good at going to sleep as soon as we turn out the light.

Can you get some steps for the bed for her to try?

Well, I haven't let her get near the edges of the bed because I am afraid she will try to jump. I'll try to find her some steps. :) Good idea. Also, she doesn't sleep when we turn the lights off.. lol She bites, licks, puts her butt on our faces. lol It's cute but at the same time we are just like ahh.. we want to be comfy with you. :(

I realized the first night how blessed we were that Gracie settled right down to sleep as soon as the lights went out. I thought we may have trouble as she was 100% full bore playing right up to that point. But we turned out the lights and snuggled in, she found her spot and went right to sleep. :) I hope we will be that lucky when Yogi joins us next week. :rolleyes:

That's great. :) You are definitely lucky. lol I'll try that with her tonight. The thing is my fiance can't fall asleep without the tv on. It's so annoying. lol So maybe that is the reason she stays up. I fall asleep but she wont. Hope your yogi is just as calm. :)

Gus is 12 months old and pretty sturdy. I still don't let him on the bed, although I'd like too, and may never, unless I can lower the mattress. No problem with the 12 year old. He can leap tall obstacles in a single bound. He's doesn't like the bed though.

All 3 of my yorkie babies sleep with me. They use the steps to get up and down. At exactly 9:00 pm they all settle down and go to sleep.

My Bella is a jumper, she thinks she is a kangaroo. She weighs approx. 6 pounds now. She has been jumping off the beds, couches, etc. since she was tiny. She jumps up and down to waist level at us all the time. I swear she is part Kangaroo. She is always taking flying leaps off things when she sees her friends (my 2 cats) walk through the room. She will get up from couch and jump to the floor in 2 seconds flat before you can even grab her. :(

If she can jump up on the bed by herself she can probably jump down. Personally, I would never take the chance unless you have very thickly padded carpet and a bed that is low to the floor. All you need to do is read some of the horrific injuries that have happened to the dogs on this site whose owners aren't particularly careful

I think it's really cute that you have your babies sleep with you, but I just don't feel comfortable with that. Gucci whines at about 9:15, we head into the bedroom and he crawls right into his crate. I don't hear a peep from him until morning and even then he takes his time coming out! I worry about him jumping or falling off the bed or couch. He's had an accident or 2 in the living room and fortunately did not hurt himself. Since he's just around 4#, I tend to baby him a little!

well, milu is 2.6 lbs and 8 months old. she sleeps with me on the bed, but honestly i wouldn't recommend it. just because i think if you have a smaller yorkie, unless she will stay sleeping on top of your pillow or something, i am always worried about crushing her. i started letting her sleep on the bed because i really want to cuddle with her at bedtime. but i regret it now, because she won't sleep anywhere else but on the bed now, and i am always worried about her and i get very mad when my fiance moves around when he sleeps. i always have to stay half awake to karate kung-fu kick him when he moves around. i will yell at him "pick one position for sleeping and stay like that the entire night ok!? you are going to kill milu moving around so much! don't you see how little she is!"

the stairs idea is ok if the yorkie doesn't accidentally fall off the bed. which milu has a couple of times when she slept too close to the edge or when i was playing with her on the bed (another bad idea!)

milu only tried to jump off of the bed once, and she squeaked when she hit the floor...poor baby

i would say if your bed is not too high off the ground. then it's safe (like if you just have the mattress on the floor :p ) otherwise i wouldn't do it since i think you said your yorkie is also a tiny one.

oh, plus, milu did pee on the bed when she wasn't potty trained yet. but of course that's again my fault for letting her on the bed in the first place.

I don't take chances with Tyke because he does jump off the couch, but it's on carpet. When we put him on the bed just to watch tv because we don't let him sleep with us...I watch him because i think he would jump off and it's tile floor in my bedroom. He weighs 3 lbs now and last night he was sitting by me on my bench at my table. Well it's on tile floor and he bailed off and hollered, I don't know what he hurt, but i picked him up and rubbed him and and loved on him, then he was ok. The bench is the same height as the couch. I Just don't trust him on high places especially after last night.
Don't put nothing past them....:)
