First time posting Hello everyone.. I am brand new to this site, and so far it has been very helpful. I have a 9 month old male Yorkie named London. I have one question and hope someone will be able to help. I notice that he rarely eats, I have read that Yorkies should eat twice a day but most times my yorkie only eats once, and not much at all. I have been feeding him Iams hard food. Does any one have any suggestions on what I can do to make him eat? Thanks |
Food portions are usually stated on the side of the bags....use that as a guide. You may be surprised to learn he is eating the correct amount. Mine eat Taste of the Wild....and the daily serving is only 1/3 of a cup. You may want to consider changing foods as Iams isn't generally considered a really good food. |
You should definitly consider changing food, Iams is not good at all. People here would be able to suggest better food. |
I would also consider changing his food. I think sometimes they go through stages too. Wrigley will go through a stage where he eats any peice of food he can find, but then like this morning, he didn't want anything to do with food at all. I know I do that myself, sometime I can eat a ton, and other times I just don't feel hungry, I think it happens with dogs sometimes as well. If he is a healthy weight and active he is probably fine. But like someone else said use the side of the bag as a guideline, they seem to be helpful. And welcome to YT! |
Welcome to YT, you will find tons of info here! |
Welcome!!! I am a new Yorkie owner, so I can not be of much help here. You will learn a lot here. |
Hey! Welcome, lots of wonderful folks here! I just switched my puppy as well. I didn't realize there was a difference in foods. I've learned so much from everyone! I think you'll love it here! |
Hi and welcome to YT. I just switched Bailey's food to Natural Balance and he is eating better now than before but he still has days when he just picks at his food. |
Hi there and welcome to YT :D Is London A little guy? How long have you had him? Sometimes, A change to A new home can throw off A Yorkie's Appetite. But, if he has always been this way then I would look into changing his food to a higher quality diet. In the Health and diet section their is A thread about premium foods and links too. Check it out , it may help you decide what to do. If London is not A tiny yorkie, and is not showing any signs of ilness then he might be just a picky yorkie. Does he ever eat human food? Because once they do, they develop A prefernce for that. It can be hard to break them off of it too. I hope you find Yorkie talk helpful , it is full of information and wonderful people. :yorkietal |

Yes London is a boy. I have had him for 6 months and he has never really ate much. I do occassionally give him human food but ver little. I think that maybe it just is the brand of food. I also have two cats and he always sneaks and eats their food instead of his own. |
Our yorkies are about the same age. Atticus was born Dec 27 and weighs 4 pounds now. He has never been much of an eater. Recently, I thought I'd try to switch to some other food (I was giving him what the breeder used). I posted a thread to find out what others here feed their yorkies. It was most helpful. Result: Atticus loves Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul canned food. He's eating more than he's ever eaten before. good luck :) |
Hi and welcome to YT!!! Daizy went through over 5 different brands of dog food before she settled on one she liked!! Good luck |
:wavey::wavey::wavey::wavey::wavey: Hi Welcome to YT Princess is a very picky eater too. I hear Taste of the Wild is super good. I'm going to try it on Princess, if she won't eat it Many will. Best of luck to you! |
