To trim or not to trim I'm letting Rowdy's coat grow. Should I trim the hair between his eyes? It's sticking straight up and at times sticks his eyes. I've tried mineral oil and top knott gel to slick it down, but that's not helped much. Also, Rowdy gets so cold when the weather turns cool like it has now and if I put a coat or sweater on him, it causes his hair to mat and this is with a leave-in conditioner. Any tips on both my questions is appreciated. |
trim. i feel bad for them when they have hair in their eyes. i get a puppy cut because mine doesn't like to be brushed. |
I think you could either trim or let it grow out. Coral has never had her's trimmed and it's long enough were it isn't in her eyes. |
I prefer it long and comb it to the side. I trim the part on Loki's face that sticks up because he doesn't have a topknot, but I part the hair on the bridge of his nose and comb that to the side. Sammy has a topknot and hers is all grown out. |
I trim Finnigan's. Its really about how comfortable you feel. If your ok with having clippers/scissors that close to his eyes. |
I don't like hair sticking in Daizy's eyes either....it causes her eyes to be more weepy as well! I trim Daizy's hair between and around her eyes....matter of fact...I trim down the top of her nose too!! I just love seeing her snout! Just be careful because they could move really quickly! |

I keep all mine long and pull it up into a bow. I just love the way the long hair looks.. but Boy what a PAIN!!! I spend more time doing their hair then my own!! |
Most of the dogs with really nice top knots...have not had their hair cut. Until it grows out....lay it down with hair gel. |
Wrigley's is kind of like that too. Too short for a bow (though I'm not sure if he will wear one yet or not) but long enough that it is in his way. I think I am going to pin it back. |
Glad to hear someone else doesn't like to be brushed!!lol I feel like "unfit mommy"!! Lily HATES to be brushed, combed, blow dried all of it!!lol She bites and carries on horrible!! I keep her cut short too and she is as cute as she can be but she hates for me to touch her with ANYTHING!!!!! |
1 Attachment(s) When I was growing captain jack's stop (that's what that area is called) out it was so hard for me not to cut it. I am a groomer and my fingers just itched to get my clippers ahold of it!!!! I am glad now that I didn't trim it. Its still not long enough for a top knot on top of his head. I put it in a small latex grooming band so he kind of has a little topknot between his eyes. I know that sounds crazy, but it is really cute! This isn't the cutest pic of it, but the its the only one I could find that showed it without a bow!! Hope that helps! Oh and I used topknot gel:) |
We are in the process of growing Abby and Daisy's "stop" out right now. (Learn something new everyday) Abby's is so wild looking! As hard as it is, I won't cut it again. Well, I didn't actually cut it in the first place the dagnabbit groomer did ...grrrr. I didn't know to tell her not to! I really like the way it looks when the hair is long enough to part on thier nose and comb down. So much prettier than a shaved snout  I love our groomer, but for the life of me, I don't know why she did that! If it's bothering his eyes though, that's a whole other story. I think in that case, I'd trim it. |
i was told by the groomer that it needs to be trimmed because otherwise it will bother their eyes. is that not true? and if you are trying to grow it out, how to prevent it from poking their eyes? thank you! |
I guess I didn't know there was a choice being the newbie...lol My groomer made this choice for me. She cut them. She supposedly was the "yorkie" lady at the place that I went to. Although she butchered my Yorkie's hair. She cut off one eye lash and eye brown one side and left the other side. It was about 1/8 in places and then about a inch and a half in other areas. She now freaks out when she hears a hair dryer, which she didn't before she went. The worst part is they said it was going to be 15.99 and then when I picked her up it was 40.00! |
