Help Needed: Chewed Furniture Maxwell really hasn't done much damage before, and now he's really did it :mad: I was about to eat something in the living room and I found the bottom corner of the curio was chewed on :mad: I showed it to him while screaming at him :mad: I can't help from screaming of how mad I am, since it is new or a couple years old or so. He's almost 14 months old. Any suggestions are appreciated. |
It really doesn't help screaming at him after the fact. (which i'm sure you already know) My suggestion would be not to leave him alone in an area where there is something that he can chew on. If you catch him in the act of chewing, then you can scold him.....otherwise, he has no idea why you are yelling. I have chewed corners on my furniture and have just come to look at it as having some "character" LOL |
i've read about a bitter apple spray you can buy to deter chewing. i never tried it. mine doesn't chew anything. (just pees on furniture) lol.. yorkies are so much fun!:) |
Yes, I already know yelling isn't going to help unless I catch him right away. Before I got him, I could keep the place in clean tip top shape. I had a lot done to it and it took a long time to repair my parents home (R.I.P.). Since I got him, I can't keep the place clean either. That upsets me. He really isn't such a mess, but tonight he tore up his penguin toy and stuffing is everywhere....and now the curio :mad: |
When you can't watch him, put him in an xpen.....they are pups, and although most of them are done chewing by the age of one, some of them do chew a few mos. longer..they're just like babies, and as our animal trainer told us, if they do something wrong, it's not their fault, it's the owners! Mine chewed my $3000 leather sectional too, but, I never yelled, as I knew it was my fault for not caging them when I wasn't there to watch them |

Usually, he's good. He's either running around playing with a toy, chew bone, ice chip....or watching what is going on outside thru the porch windows or front door...or bringing me a ball or toy to play with him. He's a good boy....otherwise. This curio wasn't that much, but I bought 3 of them (2 small and one large). So maybe combined it is half of what your couch is. I had to replace a lot of stuff around here since it was rotten after 50 years. |
My dog chewed through a wall once, and bent his crate door in and let himself out. He was a pit bull though. A very sweet pitbull. Oh yeah...he also chewed up a $200 book. That I had to buy then. When we couldn't watch him we just locked him up. He would also chew stuff when he hadn't had enough exercise or mental stimulation. He was bored.. |

Our little Harley started to chew the door frame and the corner of a table leg. I put clear stick deoderant on all of the door frames, baseboards, and furniture legs. He took one taste and that was the end of his chewing. |
