Selling puppies What's the general consensus on the age to sell pups? |
12 weeks old . |
Ditto what Diego said. 12 weeks is generally the age. |

I actually got all 3 of mine between 10 to 12 weeks of age and I have not had any problems with them learning social skills or had health problems with any of them at all. |
Most states allow the sale of puppies and kittens at 8 weeks of age. Most Yorkie breeders start letting them go at 12 weeks, unless they're tiny. However, I think the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America suggests 14 weeks. The longer they can stay with Mom and siblings, the more they learn. Also, new owners are happier because the pup's bladder control is better, and they can go all night without needing to go out. They're more independent and don't cry so much when they're separated and go to their new home. I just think that older is better in this instance. Both of mine were 14 weeks old when I got them. And it was good ... none of the issues I was expecting. |
12 weeks is the minimum :) |
Here they can sell them anytime after 6 weeks of age..I would say 8-12 weeks |
15-20 Weeks Old I have always kept mine around 15-20 wks. old just b/c by that age they are already; Crate Trained, House Broken, Leash Trained and used to their Daily Grooming Routine; Teeth and Hair Brushing & Face/eye washing and have had all their Vaccinations and Micro-chipping etc. I find that the older they are, the more well adjusted, balanced and Independent they become. I know alot of Breeder's that sell them very young @ 6 wks so they appear smaller for their age w/c they lie about by saying they are older @ 8 wks instead of 6 wks. |

For yorkies and small breeds in general 12-14 weeks is the acceptable time line. However some people will let them go later if they are small. I got mine at 9 wks... and it was still way to soon for him, he was very immature and we had alot of blood sugar problems and he got sick really easy, wasn't able to eat hard food real well yet. Then i got my girl at 14 weeks and I was so nervous we might have a repeat problem and we had none! My husband and I actually thought at one point maybe our first was mentally retarded... (hahaha) because he was just so off not at all a puppy very much still a baby... and really needed his mom still. But i must say after I had to hand feed him every 3 hours for a month we bonded very well... not really they way we wanted to but now he loves me best and knows I will always care for him even if its not always fun.:yelrotflm |
I got Twinkle at 11 weeks, she was the only one of the litter to go then because she was much, much larger than her littermates. Her bladder control was good and her appetite was great, I'm sure this was due to her size...the breeder let the rest go at 14weeks when they were bigger and stronger. xxx |
the size? if you care about the size of the adult age of york, you must wait until 6 months or even one year, otherwise, the estimated size will surprise you. the rule of 3M X 2 or 2M X 3 = weight of adult doesn't apply well often. |
