EEEEEKKKKKKK!!!!!! I'm getting a new baby!!!! Oh my gosh, this has happended so quickly I can't even believe it!!! I am getting a new baby and Ranger is getting a brother!!!! Help!! I need tips on how to introduce the two and how to make the transition easier on him, and good for Ranger, too. Any advice guys? I know someone will be able to help... I am feeling a bit in shock. Someone slap me quick!! |
I won't slap you but I wil give you a big Congratulations Hug!!! :hug60: |
Congratulations. How old is Ranger, and what is the sex and age of the new addition? |
Oh my gosh thank you!!!!!!! I am kinda freaking out- but in a good way, not bad. |
The best advice I can give you is to do it very gradually and slow. Ranger will be very curious and the new baby will probably be scared. When I introduced my two, I put them both in their separate crates, then set them end to end so they could smell each other for awhile. Just be very careful and make sure you keep constant watch and intervene as soon as you even think the play might start to get rough. Oh, and Congratulations!! |
Congrats on getting a new pup |

Should I take Ranger to a friend's house for the day while I pick up Ryder and get him used to his surroundings, or should I take Ranger with me to pick him up? What do you guys think? <my avatar is my new little guy- Ryder!!> |
Whenever I would bring a new pup home, which for awhile seemed like all the time, I would bring the new one in, put her on the floor and let the other ones smell her...never have had any problems doing this..congratulations on the new baby |

I am sure Ryder will be scared because he is flying from North Carolina! Ranger can be a bit overwhelming, and is a bit bigger than Ryder. I will def. keep the closest watch on them! |
Congratulations!!:p |
I'm a new aunt again!!!! Ryder and Ranger are lucky boys to get you and Robert for parents! Maybe we can get a group together like a playdate...they could meet each other, and then when Ranger is too tired to know the difference, you'd just sneak home with both of them! Ok, that might be a bit much for Ryder. How about I just take Ranger home with us, then Ryder can meet everyone else, and when Ranger comes home in, oh, I don't know...10, maybe 15 years - give or take - Ryder will just be there! You know that Roxy and I are willing to do our part and make that sacrifice for you and Ranger! When is Ryder coming? I am so excited for all of you! |
Amanda....introduce them outside of your house. It is neutral territory. It doesn't have to be away from your house...the backyard is fine. In the beginning make sure Ranger understands he has not be replaced. He gets fed first, he gets greeted first, first treat etc. This will always not be necessary just in the beginning. With the two so young and close in age...I'm thinking you'll have no problem whatsoever with adjusting. Congratulations on Ryder. He's a cutie. :) I'm sure Nicki is glad he's getting a home from a fellow yt'er. |
If you can, bring something with Ranger's scent with you when you pickup Ryder. Let him adjust to it on your trip home. If you could do the same with Ranger, on his turf without Ryder, this would be good, and even better too. |
Congratulations!! When I brought my last 3 home (at different times) it was always later at night and I just brought them in and supervised them all. They just sniffed and followed, never had any issues. I did put the newest one in a crate when not able to watch them until I knew they would be ok. When I brought Pixie home she was 13 months and Cali was 18 months and Maya was 9 years old and they all got along fine. I just gace Cali extra kisses. |
