sleeping too much? I'm noticing my yorkie is sleeping a lot! Normally, both my husband and I work and we would crate her while we were at work... now, i'm working from home and she's never in her crate anymore, however she's sleeping all day, all afternoon and all night... is this weird behaviour? Initiailly i thought it was her schedule because if she's in her crate all day while we were both at work, she's most likely sleeping... and perhaps she still has that habit?? I think she's sleeping over 16 hours a day!!! any ideas, suggestions would be great... thanks! |
I don't think it is a problem. If you were not home, they say that they would sleep the day away. I feel bad a lot because I am home too and if I am in another room, they generally are laying down or sleeping. And when I do go out and run errands and come home, they are usually getting up from one of their beds or on the couch-from sleeping. So I wouldn't worry too much. |
Poor little things. Mostly what else do they have to do except eat, sleep, and chew while awake? My pup was bright, eager to do things, but I just couldn't keep him occupied. So, now he mostly sleeps. Nothing else to do. Do dogs sleep due to depression caused by lack of things to do? |
Sounds pretty normal to me. As long as she's peppy when she IS awake, then it's all good:thumbup: Now if she's mopey or lethargic when awake, it's time to call the vet. |
thanks everyone... maybe it is depression too... i buy her all these toys, but she only wants me to play with her and her toys... maybe i need to convince hubby we need a 2nd yorkie ;) LOL |
I think it's pretty normal, when they are puppies they are pretty active, but after about 1 year, they seem to sleep a lot. If you get another, you will just have two dogs sleeping, unless one's a puppy. |
I mentioned depression. I think your pup is very normal. I was wondering why, in general, dogs sleep so much. |
I think your baby needs a playmate!!! Especially if you are at home full time now! My sister was living with us when I first got Daizy...and she had her little furbaby...so Daizy and Sophie became best buds. However when they moved Daizy seemed to be very sad...although they see each other weekly..its just not the same!! So we're getting Tulla! (Tulip) She'll be here in 3 weeks when my daughter comes to Montana!! Can't wait!!! Why stick with 1 yorkie when you can have 2!!!!! Especially if your life style would permit it! Plus I have to admit I've been so jealous of all my YT friends that have 2 + yorkies!! So I'm joining the club! HOpe you give thought to it! Then you won't feel so quilty when you can't play with your baby as much as you want! |
My girls both sleep a lot. Abby is 9 months and Daisy is 2.5 yrs. I often wonder if they do it out of boredom? I try to walk them everyday, but it doesn't always happen. They have a large fenced in area, but only want to do thier business and back in the house. They do love for me to throw toys for them, so they can fetch, but if we aren't playing fetch or sometimes for a while during the day they play with each other, they are asleep. |
