I need help on making a decision... 2 Attachment(s) So we are thinking we would like to get a female Yorkie for Wrigley to play with, but we perfer to rescue/adopt for two reason, one for the cost of the Yorkie, but also to help a dog out. I originally emailed the breeder I got Wrigley from to tell him to let me know when he has any females come along. He emailed me back telling me they were looking to rehome Wrigley's Aunt who they are retiring from breeding. She is 6 years old. Wrigley is 5 months. Then yesterday I saw this other precious pup up for rescue. She is 1 1/2 years old. She is about 2 hours from here (about the same distance to the breeder). This is why I don't know what to do. While I would rather have a younger yorkie, I know that the younger one will get snatched up, and by the time I call today she may even be gone, I don't know. But I'm not sure how long it would be until Wrigley's Aunt would get a home. The first picture is of the 1 1/2 year old, and the 2nd is of the 6 year old who is Wrigley's Aunt. |
That's a tough call. They both look adorable. How old is Wrigley? If it were me, I'd lean toward the younger pup if she's closer to Wrigley's age. But I'd also base it on the health of the dog. They are both "adults." If you can get an indication of their vet history, it might tip the scale. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong either way. Follow your heart. |
Wrigley is only 5 months. I naturally lean towards the younger pup simply because she is younger, but I know that she will be adopted quickly because of how cute and young she is. That is why I'm torn, because while I would like the young adorable girl, I'm guessing his Aunt will continue to wait to be rehomed. Also we wouldn't be able to drive up to get her until at least Sunday (they are open on Sunday) because of work schedules and it being 2 hours away. So I'm not sure if they would hold her if others showed interest. I am in fact looking for a dog who would act as a lap dog, but also keep Wrigley company/play with him. I do know they are kept outside (not in horrible conditions or anything) so house training may be an issue, since she is 6, I don't know I am just torn. Anyone have any experience getting a 6 year old rescue? |
Why not save yourself some trouble and adopt them both LOL |

I rescued a 10-year-old to be a buddy with my 2-year-old. They haven't become best buddies in the two years since. The younger one has dominance issues. The 10-year-old still pees in the house. My guess is he was a breeder. But I wouldn't trade either one for the life of me. I don't regret my decision. I sometimes wonder if a younger dog would have gotten along better with the younger one, but it's a moot point. I love the older one just as much. |
