Why do Yorkies have to sniff every blade of grass? Could someone tell me why do yorkies have to sniff every blade of grass when they go to potty? When I take Chloe out, she sniffs everything. I don't care if it's hot outside or cold outside or even raining. She has to sniff everything. She also walks back and forth and back and forth and if she doesn't like where she is, she walks on and starts it all over again. My mom's dog Maggie, goes out side and boom, she pees and that's it. No sniffing and no walking back and forth. Of course, Maggie is a Shih Tzu. Hee Hee |
Sadie is a sniffer too - she especially loves to smell around all the mailboxes in the neighborhood where all the boy dogs have done their "business" - :p :p. - little hussy!!!! |
Mine not only sniffs the grass but also trys to eat the grass. |
mine too!!! my hubby gets so sick and tired of taking Gracie out to go potty because all she does is sniff around... but she doesnt go potty she ends up going back towards the house and goes in... :( its FRUSTRATING!!! |
Twinkle's a serial sniffer! I have a sniffer too! And it isn't just grass - its leaves, twigs, bird poo, slugs.......For some reason everything seems to smell more interesting when its 11pm, freezing cold, and I want her to hurry up so I can go to bed:D xxx |
Oh yes, Wrigley smells, eats and plays with every single piece of grass, stick, bug and anything else he can find out there. I think he has learned that after he does what I want him to do we have to go back inside lol So he prolongs it. |
My question is about eating. Do they have to eat everything the find on the ground? Stones, leaves, fallen fruits.. Sigh. |

Both of mine are on a mission outside: Must sniff, must taste, must graze. So many blades of grass, not enough time to sniff, lol. |

Bella Too Bella must sniff everything too. Every blade of grass, tires tailpipes bugs, spots on driveway, etc. She also jumps at any noise she hears at her night time walk sometimes running away from it toward the house. My husband who loves her, does come in and complain. so funny!!! ;) |
My little furbaby is a sniffer too....loves to sniff everything, especially where the boys have gone off and done their business. |
well if I had to poo outside and in public, i'd be mighty picky about where I left my poop. after all, i'd need to know where to back to in case i get hungry later. ok, gross, but you know a lot of pups like "seconds" :D |
You know what Maya does that I love??? She stands very still when the breeze blows and raises her head to greet it, and as it blows her little hair I can almost see her smile like "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh that feels good, I like that." |
Pao sniffs everything too. He sniffs faster when he just got out the door for a walk and much much slower on the way home coz he doesn't want the walk to end. There was a few times he ate worms...especially after it has been raining through the night and the worms are out. Very gross.. |
I can totally agree with all of you. Today Buddy was outside for 35 mins before he pooped. Now since it is Fall, all of the leaves and pine needles are falling. He seems to LOOOOVE the pine needles and he sniffs them all. It is kinda cute tho, because he will look up at me and then he has a few stuck on his nose. It is priceless. Lol! |
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww, my Yorkies are little SNIFFERS as well. I don't mind though because I look at their walks as THEIR time. Time for them to do as they please (as long as it isn't dangerous) and time for them to just BE DOGS. Although I will update you on that when we are in the middle of WINTER. LOL It doesn't matter what my Yorkies do. EVERYTHING is ADORABLE !!!!!!!! :) |

She's nosey too. If we pass someone walking into their home, getting mail, getting into their car, etc she stops and stares at them. Even if I pull on her harness and say "let's go", she starts walking with her head turned almost all the way around trying to see they are doing. |

Maddie does the same thing as Maya! It almost seems like she is smelling something in the wind! I laugh at the potty training advice that says when they start sniffing around in the house to take them out to potty, it is a sign they have to go. We would spend all of our time outside!! Maddie sniffs everything in the house too. Nose to the carpet sniffing around. My kids and I laugh and wonder exactly what a blade of grass has to smell like before Maddie deems it worthy enough to poop on!! She is not quite as selective when she pees, but to poop, boy she is picky! She goes in the same area each time in a sectioned off portion of the back yard so it is only her scent in there, well, I guess an occasional squirrel runs through the pen too... Sorry I am getting long winded, but I would also like to know how to keep Maddie from mouthing/eating everything she finds. I was putting hair mousse in my hair and a blob hit the ground, before I could even look down, zap she already had it. Scares me because I think she could get something dangerous before I even know it. The "leave it" command won't work if you can't even get the words to leave it out before she already has it! |
One of Max's favourite pastimes, is sitting with his head tilted to the wind. He has a tranquil look about him, when he does this. He does all of the above too, except he does not eat his poo, that the lord. |
Chloe loves the wind in her hair too. I think that's cute. It's like wow look at the wind mommy. This will be her first winter and she is already freezing. I had to put on her sweater today. The grass was wet and cold and she freaks out. I am still thinking about getting her some shoes. I ordered her some duckie house slippers from Tinkerbell's Closet but haven't got them in yet. I really dread this winter with snow and sleet. I really like to have a dog walk with a top on it to put her in to potty but something tells me she won't potty in there. It's a lot of money. My neighbor lets her two dogs outside to potty without a leash and when they come in, they potty on the floor. |
