Help with New Puppy I really need some answers, please help. Ok I posted pictures of my new little girl Lexi and my 1 year old Chewy. We just got Lexi on Sunday night. The breeder that I had got her from had provided me with a letter from the vet with her current shots and stating that shes in good health. Well I still wanted my vet to exam her and he did find that her back knees slip. So I had told the breeder this and she does not want to refund me some of the money, should I have asked or not? I just felt that I was mislead from the beginning because now she said that the mother and father have it she never told me that until now. Is this heritary and should she be breeding? Is this a genitic issue? I just don't know what to do. What are the problems and issues that might happen to Lexi. My vet said 20% will need surgery and that he can not tell me know if she will need it. I am so confused. |
There is quite a bit of information about luxating patellas on YT, you can search for it. My personal experience is that grade 1 usually doesn't cause any problems for normal weight and activities. However, most breeders will tell you that she should not be bred as this is a hereditary condition. Your contract with the breeder should have provided for this event. Sometimes it is difficult to diagnose when they are puppies, and it can develop in later years as well. Try to keep her at a good weight, as the more she weighs, the more stress it puts on the knees. Most dogs don't require surgery. Only your vet can tell you what grade she has (1 to 4). Good luck. |
