I'm Embarrassed, but Now's the Time to Ask Gus had his first birthday 10/12/2008. I think one year is long enough to wait for him to lift his leg to urinate. He does have a role model (older resident Yorkie). He's neutered. He appears to be comfortable while urinating. Any thoughts on what's going on? |
Gus (avatar) is such a cutie!! :aimeeyork Even when neutered at a young age, some yorkies will always lift their leg. Hopefully, you'll get more helpful suggestions or training ideas from others. |
be grateful that he is not lifting his leg. If I understood your post, this is what concerns you.:) |
Why would you want him to do that? Squatters are much easier to deal with - no chance of marking, other than the carpet. ;) |
Ooopsie, I misread your post. I thought that he was lifting and you were waiting for him to stop. With him not lifting now, are you saying that you're pleased and want to know whether he will start after 1 yr old? Or are you wanting him to lift, so he does not get any urine on his fur? If it's the latter, there have been some great threads in the grooming section about the best cuts, how far to shave etc to minimize pee-fur |
You WANT him to lift his leg? |
Count your blessings..... |
I'm looking for something to worry about. Is this abnormal? Otherwise, it is a positive. |
Consider yourself real lucky he doesn't lift his leg... My Rambo has been lifting his leg since he was 11 weeks old (he is 14 weeks old now). |
Hot Rod is 13 1/2 mos old and was neutered at 6 1/2 mos. He's just started lifting a leg within the last 2 mos. But he still squats too. I was afraid for him to lift because we are keeping him on the pad as well as going out. Fortunately he's not lifted his leg in the house. I wouldn't worry about it.:) |
oh my i'm praying my little one NEVER learns to lift his leg. I prefer him squatting....he always hits the pee pad! |

LOL This is a hilarious post!!! Your definately looking for something to worry about! Be glad your little one still squats....maybe he can teach the older one! lol |
Squating to pee is a better worry than cocking his leg inside your house. For the record...Reese is almost two years old and only this past summer started lifting his leg outside. Sometimes he still loses his balance and falls over... He's not very good at it. |
Thanks for all the positive comments. My worry now is that he'll start lifting his leg:). |
