Need advice!! 2 Puppies..good or bad? I have read so much from the "Pet Experts" that it is a bad idea to get two puppies from the same litter. Dominance issues, over dependance on each other, not getting along when they are older. I need some advice from the yorkie talk group..... thanks |
I didnt get 2 from the same litter but mine are 1 month apart in age and have the same dad. It worked out for me mine are very close and never fight. The only difficult thing was potty training two at once but its doable. Good luck with whatever you decide |
Here are some good articles for you: Think twice before getting 2 puppies - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Two Puppies or One? - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! |
I have two puppies from the same litter, and they get along great! They are very close to each other, and they groom each other & play tug-o-war with each other. I wouldn't have it any other way! They are growing up together, and they are so good when they meet other dogs, and I'm sure that socialization is because they got to stay together. |

Both my boys are from the same litter . Ryd we got first then a couple weeks later Tuc got returned to the breeder and we were asked if we would like to purchase him ...... which we did . Ryder settled down a LOT , especially at night after Tuc came to live with us ! i wish we would have got the 2 at the same time . Never an issue of dominance ..... except when they are trying to rule the cat ( he is 21 lbs ! ) ! Two are just more lovin':aimeeyork |

Ryd&TucMom, i'm so glad you posted b/c first hand accounts are so important and help to show that all pups are different and the right environment can also make all the difference. |
I'm considering getting another pup if I can find one for next to free. Marley just terrroizes my older gal and she is SOOO not interested. So my friend suggested that I get another one that could play with Marley and keep him occupied and away from my Corkie. I don't know if it is good or bad really. I think bringing Marley, the baby, in with Corkie has not been one of my better ideas. Right now...I think she hates me for it......LOL Good luck, read the literature, then go with your heart. Each dog is so different. |
2 Puppies I have 2 little boys from the same litter--they are SOOOO close-it is the best decision we ever made. W bought Bubba first and 3 weeks later decided to call the breeder-she still had the brother, Navigator-so we got him as well. I am like Ryd&TucMom-our only regret is that we did not buy them at the same time. After having 2 we have decided that we will always have at least 2-they are so much company for one another-- |

HI! I had 2 yorkie pups. They weren't from the same litter, but only about 2 weeks age difference. I got Captain Jack when he was 7weeks and Junie B at 12weeks. I could definitely tell a difference in Captain Jack after Junie B came home....and not for the better. It was really difficult with 2 puppies. At that age they need alot of attention and one on one time. I also have two other inside dogs and a 4yr old daughter. It may work out better for some one without quite so much going on, but it just wasn't a good situation for us or Junie B. She is a very energetic pup and really needed more time than I had to give. We recently rehomed her, and she is happy in her new home with only 1 other yorkie and no children! We love her and miss her, but we still get to see her. If you decide to get another puppy, really think about it first. It was heartbreaking having to rehome our June Bug, even though we knew it was for the best. Good Luck!!! Jessica |
