Please respond asap! Koda is one year old and still has 1 baby tooth (left top eye tooth) that is still hanging in there and it is starting to collect food bits in between the baby and adult tooth! What does it cost to get it removed? Does he have to go under to get it done? will he have to stay overnight? Any help would be great! |
Yes they have to go under but they shouldnt have to stay overnight. I am not sure of the costs I had mine done at the spay/neuter and the vet didnt charge me for removing the teeth |
Has he been neutered? The vet normally removes any baby teeth when the dog is getting fixed. |
If that's his sole baby tooth it may still come out on it's own. One of mine was a year old when that last tooth came out. Reese was the only one that had any extracted when he was neutered. The vet charged $5 a tooth. |
They will probably won't put him under all the way, they may just lightly sedate him to get that tooth out. They ususally pull remanding baby teeth out at the time of spay/neuter. Shouldn't be that much I wouldnt think. Call the vet and tell them its the Upper k9 Tooth that needs to come out! |
Baxter is 10 months old and still has the same exact tooth as Koda. We are hoping it will come out on its own. We play with pull toys every night. He's already neutered so if it is not out when we go for one year check-up we will see what the vet says. |
Both the pups held onto their upper canine teeth until they were nearly a year old. When I say "nearly", I'm talking a few days. All of their other teeth came out on a timely basis, but those last two teeth were real boogers. We did the tuggy thing with the "floss" ropes, things that we could pull through their teeth. I also found a ball that was made of silicone, but had a lot of little holes in it: they would chew on the ball. I'm not sure what exactly did the trick, but one day they were just gone. Well, almost: I looked in Bella's mouth and one was gone and one was hanging on, just like a little kid's. I got a piece of tissue, grabbed ahold of it, and it fell right out. It's the only baby tooth I have from either dog. Don't let that food collect: it will cause decay to the adult tooth, and can give a good start to gum disease. An old (or new!) child's toothbrush should dislodge the food, and may even dislodge the tooth for you. Good luck! |
I saw a special toy that is designed to reach between their teeth and help remove debris or plaque....I think it was at K-mart....but sure you can get it at pet smart...or pet co...whichever is nearest you. My sisters yorkie is 1 yr old and she still has 2 of her baby teeth. It will cost 100.00 to sedate her and pull both teeth..but if you haven't neutered your baby yet...like others have said..it doesn't cost hardly anything to pull them while your baby is out. :animal-pa |
my 7 yr old Doxie still has her baby tooth right next to her k9 tooth and she is perfectly fine- the vet looked at it, and said no need to extract it. I would just ask your vet. Fiona has lost all her baby teeth except for that one, she is getting spayed soon, and they said they are going to charge me 10.00 for it! :D |
Brady is 3 and still has a baby tooth. The vet just wants to leave it because of his heart murmur they don't want to sedate him. It is darker, but not rotten. If it starts to rot or infect then we will have to take it out. |
Thanks everyone for the replies! Unfortunatly his tooth is not even loose! Also he is not fixed and I don't plan on fixing him so it cannot be at the same time. Does anybody know about the cost in Canada? |
OMGOSH! I just called my regular vet and they said the extraction would cost $500.00!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: Is this normal?????? |
NO! Get another Vet |
MAybe I should just leave it there and wait for it to come out on its own. I will just have to brush it often. |
I live in Calif...most expensive damn place to live. I can get a dental ( full ) done for 300-500.00 depending on how extensive and how many teeth have to be pulled. I have an old gal with not many teeth left. 500.00 to just pull a baby tooth seems to be highway robbery to me! But ..I don't know all..for sure, but my gut reaction is RIP OFF |

Buster had 2 retained baby teeth. They were in there pretty solid still at around 10 months old. He is now a little over a year old and both teeth came out a day or so before his first birthday. I am so glad because I was so worried about him going under because he is fairly small at 4lbs. My other yorkie Scampers had 2-3 retained baby teeth as well. He was over a year old and the showed no signs of coming out and he did have to have them pulled. I got to keep the teeth and boy those roots were long, there is no way they were coming out on their own. It cost about $120 to get it done. |
Dallas retained a top canine tooth until he was probably close to 1 1/2 years. It came out on its own and he has a perfect scissor bite. |
My vet charges $100 to sedate and then $40 a tooth!! |
