Separation anxiety or just wanting attention? Bentley freaks out everytime im out of his sight for even 1 minute. He's five months old today. I keep him in his crate anytime i leave the house and when we go to sleep at night to prevent accidents and just for his own safety in general. But like at night if i get up to go to the bathroom he freaks out and cries from inside his crate, barking like hes dying. And when i leave for work in the morning he does the same thing. I always make sure he has chew toys, bones, you name it we've left him with it. At first we figured it was just because he was a puppy. But now im not so sure. We have had him for three months now i figured he would get the routine. So i am concerned that he might have anxiety. Does this happen with anyone else? Please help! |
He's spoiled...it's official. |

My guy uses the sad look. |
Many people will tell you that Yorkies crave more attention than other breeds, and it's seems to be true as far as I'm concerned. They do change after the first year, and become a little more independent, your boy is still a baby. At age 2, Joey allows me to go into the bathroom alone. |

Now the bathroom thing, that cracks me up. She has stolen my toilet paper, run out of the room with my newspaper, and spraddled her little legs and peed when she heard me doing it. I toss her out the door and close it now. LOL |

I watch its me or the dog alot and it sounds like an anxiety thing. I would talk to the vet about this cause he may need some type of medication. I think with a little time and effert this can be corrected. Maybe allow him to sleep with you at night. To me being in a crate while your at work and sleeping is a long time . I put scarlet in her playpen while im at work but at night she sleeps with me and my boyfriend. You might try this it might work. Good luck! |
Have you tried training him to know you'll come back. Put him in his pen, leave for 1 minute, come back and give him praise and or a treat. Increase time between separations. Plan on doing this over the period of at least a month, and don't rush it. If he has a bad reaction to the separation time, at any point in the training, reduce it, and work up slowly. |

I put little cat bells on Daizy's collar so if she wakes up in the night I hear her...so you might put a couple bells on your little guys collar...he's 5 months old..so he should be able to hold his water at night...Daizy had an accident when she was younger...but have had no more problems with it. Your little guy will probably be MUCH happier at night if you let him sleep with you!!! Daizy sleeps VERY good with me and my hubby..heck she'll sleep in as long as I do...and many times LONGER!! She's so comfy. I can't imagine not having her in bed next to me!! |
