I do not recomend having it done before 5 or 6 months, it has to do with some of the hormones getting them to grow healthier, but then you also want to get them fixed soon enough so they will not start marking all over the place. With the new anesthesia they give it is very safe to have them fixed as soon as they turn 2 pounds, and my vet does it without major risks but he also onbly recomends if it really needs to be done, for example, if a bad umbilical hernia needs to get fixed then he goes ahead and neuter to avoid 2 surgeries.... otherwise, why hurry???? |

If I ever get another male, he'll be neutered as soon as I get him at 12 weeks. I would LOVE for the breeder to have it done before bringing the puppy home. It sounds like you found a breeder that truly cares about their pups and making sure they aren't used by backyard breeders & puppymills. I know some great breeders that spay and neuter early before placing. My cat was spayed at 16 weeks before I was able to bring her home with no issues...I think early spaying and neutering is a good thing. I wish more breeders would do it before placing their puppies..it sure would stop a lot of pets from being bred |
