What should I do?!
 
I have only had my Buddy for 4 days now. And since we have gotten him, he has slept in the crate. My hubby and I want him to sleep with us and we feel bad he is in the crate at night (since he lived in one for 2 years).

The problem we are having, is that whenever he notices blankets or fleece (my blankets or PJ pants, he humps like CRAZY!

How can I get him to stop and how can I get him to sleep with us?

I feel bad having him in the crate at night (he doesn't mind, but I do).

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I personally love crate training- and you shouldn't feel bad. WE just started letting Fiona sleep in bed with us at night, because she would get me up in the middle of the night in the crate, just to get out!

how old is buddy!? Is he neutered!? I would just take away anything that makes him hump, but I guess that would be hard to do , since you gotta have blankets on the bed!!!!!

Just try ignoring the bad behavior, and reward the good!

Buddy is 2 years old and he isn't neutered. I spoke to my vet and I heard if I get him fixed now, he will continue to hump since he already knows it and he found is sexual behavior. It may stop somewhat, but he will still continue it.

So that is where I am at a lost.
How do you stop a dog from humping?

hmmm...if the vet said it won't help, then I guess they are right. I worked at a vets office for 7 yrs, and when my parents got our mini dachshund he got neutered at 10mths and was perfect aftwards, prior to that he was marking in the house, kitchen, on my PILLOW...and it stopped.....

I wonder if you can just make a loud noise when he humps to sorta scare him away from doing so!?

Try to tell him a stern 'NO' when he does that... Humping is not necessarily sexual but mostly a dominance thing... Little Mikki, our 6 month old girl, tries to hump Minnie our 1 y.o. girl to step up in the pack order.

Maximus was a stud dog and 6 y.o. when we got him, so he had his sexual experiences. He humped all our girls, or better, he tried to and got grawled and snapped at...LOL! After he got neutered that stopped completely.

Hi,
I have 1 1/2 yr old female that loves to hump her stuffed animals. It is so annoying. I got a squirt bottle. I squirt her just a little and with a strong voice tell her off, or leave it whichever you prefer. Calleigh still tries every now and then. When I tell her leave it now she does leave it alone. It's a daily thing but not as bad as before. I'll keep working on it. It is a dominance thing not sexual behavior. I found that when I try to correct her for something else she would go right to the stuffed animals and start humping. All I can say is I hope over time they will stop. Just let Buddy know that You're the Boss!

I forgot to tell you to just use water in the bottle and nothing else. It helped me with Calleigh. My girlfriend is a vet. She told me that humping is not a sexual thing. She doesn't believe in yelling or scaring the animal. It can tend to make them nervous/jumpy. You need to be firm and let him know that you are the alpha dog.
