Is this true? 1 Attachment(s) Okay, I'm new to owning yorkies and I am contemplating about getting another one. This breeder is suggesting this one to me and I questioned why it was white and this was her answer: "He is a teenager..........they turn platnim on the head and then they come into there color. Yorkies change colors as they mature........born black and tan. Sometimes it takes them until they are 2 years old to come into there color. He is definantly all Yorkie!" Is this correct? |
Yes, she is correct. The color on his head is "breaking", that means changing color. Yorkies coats do change for the first couple of years. Also as they age they can get lighter, especially a female that has been bred. |

Yes, your breeder gave you a true statement. Their hair changes color as they grow, my Jeter reminded me of a little old man when his hair color started braking in at the young age of 10 weeks old LOL. The picture you posted looks 100% Yorkie to me! Also to help you out a bit their is a sticky called Yorkie Coats, colors, and puppy growth chart, It's at the top of the General Yorkshire Terrier Discussion just on the hair color, you might want to take a look at that, it explains well what goes on with the hair change. |

I think he's adorable. I got my second and newest puppy, Cassidy from the same breeder that Dezi came from. They are related through Dezi's father. He is Cassie's grandfather. There was only one female, it was Cassie, I wanted another female. Her earliest pictures showed white on her chest. She was only 3 weeks or so. I went online and searched and found that a small 1 inch by 1 inch square was acceptable by AKC standards as well as Yorkie standards. I wasn't going to breed or show her but I was concerned that something may be wrong with her health. She also had white on the tips of both back paws. The breeder told me it would grow out as she got older, it has on one but the other is very light tan. The interesting thing was that the one that is still really light also had three nails that were clear, like a white dog would have. The nails have blackened now. I wouldn't trade her for anything. But I still wonder if there is something genetic that went wrong. I hope nothing comes up with her health in the future. |
