Is it puppy play or...... Millie is quite a handful at the minute. She is just over 6 moths old. She is very boisterous. She is ripping up newspapers, tissues, books, bags - basically anything she can get. She stands at the window and barks at cars, dogs, people, birds - anything that moves by "her" house. She has selective hearing - when we call her back she ignores us, but if we pretend we have something for her and get all excited she comes straight back. She is semi potty trained. She goes outside when the door is open, otherwise she goes on the newspaper (though never poops on it - always poops on the tiles!). She does have the odd accident, and I think this is her playing up too, as she knows she should go on the newspaper, but then pees on the other side of the room from the newspaper. Is this the equivalent of childrens "terrible twos", or is this a serious training issue that I need to sort ASAP?! I am starting obedience classes tomorrow, but they only last 5 weeks (5 classes). Hubby is getting pretty fed up..... |
I had a great experience with dog obed and I recommend it to everyone. It is only 5 weeks but it will teach you to train and reinforce an behavior you want to work on. My training taught me to use a marker word "yes" for desired behavior. For example after "come" dog comes and you say "yes" and give praise and treat. After consistent success than you only give the treat once in a while to occasionally positively reinforce the behavior. Same with pooping on pad or outside, sit, leave it or any other behavior you want to teach. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Repetition is the key with these Yorkies! |
She must be Bree's long lost sister, lol. Bree does the same things and it drives me crazy, but I love her to death. She started this behavior when she was about 5 months and now she is a little over 1 year. I really should enroll her in obedience classes. She also get a little attitude when I take things from her that she is not suppose to play with, she starts to growl and tear up her toys. |
Sounds like my Suzi. Although she doesn't do the barking. She leaves that to Katie. lol. Hugs Shirl x x |
Ha Ha! I know what you mean. Maggie will be 5 mos on the 9th. Hot Rod is 13 mos and still chews paper! I just picked up the remnants of a napkin that hubby left in the family room last night that he and Maggie both shredded. One morning they got hold of a paper towel; it was like a snow storm! I thought it was Hot Rod that was barking during the day while out in the sunroom and lo and behold, the other night, Maggie was barking her little head off! I never heard her before other than at play with Hot Rod. Oops! While she has done sooo well with potty training, and I have a pad in the expen with them, she holds it til she goes out in the a.m. Hubby usually takes her out first then Hot Rod. Well, this morning I got up first and was getting both of them ready and she let loose on their pillow on the couch and got me in the process! And, yes,she has learned that "not coming" when called is in fact a game cause mommy will go get her since mommy is in a rush and needs to get them walked. Ugh! So I feel for ya cause I'm right there with ya! It too will pass! ;) I have hope cause Hot Rod is my proof. |
