What are your opinions? I am planning to get my first Yorkie in a few months. What are your opinions on litter box training? Thanks!! |

My three LOVE to try to eat the kitty litter (which is pelleted like "doggie litter") so I can imagine they would have a field day ingesting litter from their own box. I don't think it'd be worth the risk. You could always buy the box and use pee pads inside of it. I think some members do that. |
I tried the litter box with Porscha because we lived in an upperstory apartment...yeah it didn't work. She would either play with the litter or try to eat it. I just ended up using the tray with a puppy pad in it which seemed to work ok. |
We tried the litter box and it did not work. They just wanted to play with the litter that we put in it that we bought at the pet store. I was afraid they would choke on it. It was like newspaper pellets. We use the puppy pads and they work just fine. We use the arm and hammer ones as for some reason they always shred the ones from WalMart. We have only found the arm and hammer ones at Target or we have bought them off of Ebay since we don't have a Target close. We also use the washable ones that we bought here from YT member who makes them. We love those and I need to get more of them. I have had 3 since January and they are wearing out now. |
Thank you all! I will try with the pads. |
Another thing to keep in mind with litter at least I know for cats so I am sure the same with dogs is if it gets on their feet and they lick it and get it in their system the clay can clump up in their tummies and make them very sick. I prefer for my girl to go outside to potty. My preference. |
I use pee pads and put them inside a dogie litter box. We tried the litter, and yeah, Atticus just played with it. I found a post here that mentioned Gridlock wee wee pads. I ordered some, and they are simply amazing. Will never use anything else. Good luck. |
