yorkie breeders
 
We are looking at breeders of Yorkshire Terriers because we just lost our 12 year old little girl to kidney disease. One that we were considering is Country Home Yorkies in Sutton, MA, but read on the forum that one person had not heard great things about this breeder. We would be interested in hearing about this before we make any decisions about what breeder to use.

We have two yorkies. Something we learned after getting our first- check out the breeder's dog area, ask to see the mom and dad. Our breeder for our little girl offered all of that before we even asked. What a wonderful experience with her. Too bad we didn't know about her when we got our Skippy, of course we love him, but imagine a new puppy with Giardia(diarrhea) and ear mites. It was NOT fun. He was sick and we didn't know it. Why not contact a reputable YTCA breeder? I think that is your best bet on finding a quality Yorkie and having a breeder that will stand behind the dog 100%. You may hve to wait a little longer for a puppy, but quality is worth waiting for in the long run. Best of luck!!

Their website says they are AKC registered.

AKC registered means very little. Many puppymillers and BYBs sell AKC registered dogs. AKC is better than ConKC, APRI or USDA, but it's still not enough. How many champions have they produced? Do they sell "teacups" or "rare" colors? Do they do any health screenings? How many dogs do they have? How many breeds do they breed? Where are their dogs kept? Who did they get their breeding stock from?

A piece of paper really means nothing. There is this breeder here in KY that is proud that she passed an inspection from AKC. Good for her, but I have read that if you have good records then you will pass a freakin inspection. BTW this breeder produces like a factory, with her animals being on the assembly line. You need to find a good breeder that does not over breed. They are easy to find on here. I found my Chino from a breeder on YT and I love this guy to death.

Isn't that also true of ytca breeders? The ytca website warns that they cannot guarantee their breeders.

No, breed clubs cannot "guarantee" a breeder or their pups. However, joining a breed club is more difficult than registering a dog with AKC. You have to be nominated by a member and then voted in. You have to agree to abide by the club's code of ethics. In general breed club members are those that care about their breed. They show and do health testing and are not in it for profit. A YTCA member can be kicked out of the club for selling a pup at 6 weeks; the AKC could care less. A breeder could be suspended from a breed club for breeding mixes, AKC can do nothing. Breed clubs don't register puppies and they don't get registration fees for every dog produced, so they don't have the conflict of interest that the AKC does. Of course there are some bad eggs in every breed club, but there are far fewer than with the AKC.

She is not a breeder but a broker! I would stay away from her personally.

I cannot find Stephen Glass' website but he has something posted about her on his site...he is from MA..and very well aware...

There are some breeders in CT that I have heard good things about...

Here is a site you might be interested in: www.yorkies.com In the upper left corner, click on "looking for a breeder" , then scroll down to States K-M (M for Massachusetts). There are a ton of negative comments on there about both Laughlin Kennel and Country Home Yorkies. They were enough to scare me away from dealing with them. Hope this helps!
