Cutting nails ? Keely had her nails clipped about a month ago, and they grew back almost twice as long as the were before they were clipped?(She had been gorwing her nails for 4 months befor ethey were clipped) If the groomer clips her nails once a month, will the speed of the growth just keep increasing and increasing until we have to clip them once a week? She REALLY needs them clipped again, but im afraid of what will happen if we keep doing as often as we seem to need to. How often do you clip your dogs nails? Thanks, jessica:cool: and Keely:aimeeyork |
This is just my thoughts, I've no facts to back this up, but I think that they grow faster as puppies during their growth spurts. I dunno, it's just a thought I've had. The adults I've had I get once or twice a month as needed. Annie's grew pretty fast, Gracies seems like they do, but she's still a puppy. Boo's not so much. |
The more frequent you cut your dogs nails the better. To make the "quick" in their nails stay short you gotta cut nails probably every 2 weeks, so you can get their nails nice and short..... or depending on how fast your dogs nails grow. I was finally able to cut Fiona's nails about 2 weeks ago, and tonight i'll be doing them again! Good Luck! |

I thought it was the other way round; I thought that the more you walk your dog on rough ground, like pavement, to wear down the nail the more the vein shrinks back into the paw, but the more you cut the nail the longer that vein grows down. Well, that's what I was told by a top breeder who I know is quite the dog expert. Jess :heart to |

Daizy flips out try to clip her nails..... so I ordered that Peticure...that is supposed to file the nail down gently...still waiting on the darn thing to arrive....cuz her nails are seriously needing a trim...she's gonna look like a grizzly bear by the time the thing arrives!!! I'll let ya know if it works!! :D |

I suppose it depends on how fast they grow, but it also depends on how much they are walked on cement. Cement acts like an emery board and files them down. I take Joey into Petsmart once a month, and they tell me if he needs them trimmed. So far they seem honest, and occasionally tell me to bring him back in a couple of weeks. No appointment is needed for just the nails. I really wish I could learn to do this myself. |

Try a really rough emery board - that's what I use between trimming my girls nails - they still act like drama queens - but you can't cut too short if you file them |
